As a cinephile with decades of movie-watching under my belt, I must say that the latest streaming stats have left me utterly spellbound! The sheer volume of content being consumed is nothing short of mind-boggling. The success of “The Madness” with an astounding 2.2 billion minutes watched in just one week is a testament to its captivating storytelling. It’s fascinating to see how the streaming landscape has evolved, with shows like “Landman,” “A Man on the Inside,” and even “Our Little Secret” dominating the charts.
During the week of Nov 29 to Dec 5, “The Madness,” starring Colman Domingo, was the most-viewed original streaming series in the U.S., according to Luminate. The show was viewed for approximately 2.2 billion minutes within this timeframe, making its debut on Netflix during this period. This is a significant milestone as it’s the first title to surpass 2 billion minutes watched on Luminate’s charts since “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” which premiered with 2.7 billion minutes viewed from Sept 20-26.
During the period of November 29 – December 5, the Taylor Sheridan-created series “Landman” garnered approximately 1.2 billion minutes of viewing time, making it the most popular show among those airing, taking second place overall. The fourth episode of “Landman” was aired during this period. Following closely behind was “Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey,” which accumulated 774.2 million minutes watched. This week also saw the penultimate episode of “Lioness” Season 2 being released, resulting in 750.6 million minutes viewed. The first season of “Lioness” continues to be popular, with 358.8 million minutes watched this week, placing it at No. 8 in the rankings.
This week, “A Man on the Inside” ranked fifth with a total of 673.9 million minutes viewed, dropping from its number one spot the previous week. The series “Cross” followed closely in sixth place, accumulating 503.8 million minutes watched during its third complete week on air. The other titles on the chart – “Tulsa King” Season 2, “Lioness” Season 1, “The Later Daters”, and “The Day of the Jackal” – all fell short of 500 million minutes viewed.
In the movie rankings, “Our Little Secret” climbed to the top spot, amassing a billion minutes of viewing time in its premiere week, having initially debuted at number three with 301.8 million minutes viewed the previous week. The new Hulu film, “Nutcrackers,” starring Ben Stiller, entered the charts in second place with 300.3 million minutes watched during its first full week of release. “Spellbound” followed closely behind in third place, racking up 209.5 million minutes watched after debuting at number two with 346.7 million minutes viewed the week prior.
Out of all the titles, only one – Tubi’s ‘Sidelined: The QB and Me’ – watched for over 200 million minutes this week. The rest were ‘The Snow Sister,’ ‘Hot Frosty,’ ‘Meet Me Next Christmas,’ ‘Sikandar ka Muqaddar,’ and ‘The Union.’)
