A decade ago, Harrison Ford, famous for playing Han Solo, shared which lightsaber color he’d choose. Surprisingly, that color hasn’t appeared in any of the Star Wars films or series released since 2015.
During interviews for The Force Awakens in 2015, Harrison Ford was asked by Collider (see the video below, with the lightsaber question around the 2:10 mark) what color lightsaber he would choose.
While it started as a playful idea – or a real desire for a pink lightsaber – we still haven’t seen one in any of the Star Wars movies or TV shows. But pink lightsabers do appear in Star Wars stories, both in official canon and in older, non-official tales known as Legends.
Harrison Ford’s Pink Lightsaber Hasn’t Yet Debuted In Live-Action (But They Do Exist)
In the older stories of Star Wars, known as Legends, Mara Jade is famous for using a pink lightsaber. She started as an assassin for Emperor Palpatine but later married Luke Skywalker. While her lightsaber was technically magenta – a pinkish-purple color – both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker wielded pink lightsabers in the very first Star Wars comics published by Marvel.
While pink lightsabers haven’t appeared in the Star Wars movies or TV shows yet, they have been featured in other official Star Wars content. You can find them in the animated series Young Jedi Adventures and as a customizable color option for the lightsaber of the main character, Cal Kestis, in the video games Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor.
The new season of Star Wars Visions, Volume 3, is coming to Disney+ soon and will introduce Shad-Rah, a Jedi who fights with a pink lightsaber. However, all the stories in the Visions series haven’t been considered official parts of the Star Wars story so far.
It’s About Time Star Wars Debuts Some New Lightsaber Colors
Although pink hasn’t been prominently featured in live-action films yet, it’s interesting to see that other previously uncommon colors have started appearing on screen since 2019.
The Darksaber, a black-bladed lightsaber, has become a key part of the Star Wars story in recent shows like Star Wars Rebels and The Mandalorian. The 2023 series Ahsoka introduced new villains, the Dark Jedi Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, who fought with striking blood-orange lightsabers – a welcome addition to the visual style of the series.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m really hoping we see more lightsaber colors in future live-action shows and movies. Seriously, let’s get some pink ones in there! It’d be awesome, and I think even Harrison Ford would get a kick out of it.
