As a lifelong horror fan, I’ve always loved the Evil Dead series – it all started with Sam Raimi’s incredible original. But wow, Evil Dead Rise really blew things up in 2023! It was a huge hit with both critics and audiences. And this summer, I’m incredibly excited for the next installment, Evil Dead Burn, directed by Sébastien Vaniček, who I know from his work on Infested. It’s going to be terrifying, and I can’t wait!
Okay, as a huge Evil Dead fan, I’m already counting down the days until the new film, Evil Dead Burn, hits theaters. But get this – according to Deadline, they’ve already started casting for the movie after that one! It sounds like they’re really planning ahead. Even better, Francis Galluppi, who directed The Last Stop In Yuma County, is set to direct. That’s fantastic news, and it means we’ll be seeing more Deadites sooner rather than later!
Although the movie’s title hasn’t been revealed, seven new actors have joined the cast – all of them fresh faces to the series. This is fantastic news for the franchise, and fans will be especially excited to see Evil Dead Burn when it comes out in just a few months.
Confidence Must Be High In Evil Dead Burn
New Line Cinema, Sony, and Warner Bros. seem very confident about Evil Dead Burn and are already starting to plan the next movie in the Necronomicon and Deadite series. It’s unusual for studios to plan so far ahead for a franchise film, especially one that isn’t a major blockbuster priority.
The Evil Dead movies have always been made with small budgets, though the most recent two cost over $10 million to produce. Even with these relatively low costs, it’s likely the studios wouldn’t invest significantly in another film unless they were very sure Evil Dead Burn would be a success.
I’ve been following the Evil Dead franchise closely, and it’s been fascinating to see how it’s evolved. The last two installments, Evil Dead and Evil Dead Rise, really leaned into straight-up horror and intense gore, dialing back some of the earlier films’ more playful, campy vibes – and people loved it! Based on how quickly and successfully they’ve been building on this new direction, I’m expecting Evil Dead Burn to deliver even more high-quality scares. It seems they’re committed to keeping the horror front and center, and I’m all for it.
Evil Dead Movies Aren’t Necessarily Dependent On Each Other
Unlike many long-running movie series, the Evil Dead films don’t heavily focus on a connected storyline. While there are consistent elements – like how the Deadites behave, appear, and can be defeated – the heroes who fight them rarely return for sequels. Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams is the main exception, and it seems the upcoming Evil Dead Burn will continue this trend of featuring new protagonists.
This means two Evil Dead movies could realistically be made at the same time. The current approach to the series involves letting different directors (chosen by Sam Raimi and his team) put their own spin on the story, with each film featuring a new cast, location, and the book that unleashes the evil Deadites.
While the initial casting choices aren’t entirely unexpected given the circumstances, they should still give fans hope for Evil Dead Burn. The budget might not be huge, but the studios clearly believe this new installment will keep audiences engaged with the Evil Dead series.
