The Last Of Us Star Discusses Neil Druckmann’s Exit From The Show

Season 3 of The Last of Us is happening, but Neil Druckmann—one of the creators of the original game the show is based on—won’t be involved. He stepped down after Season 2 to concentrate on his work at Naughty Dog. Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, has offered some details about how the show will continue without him.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ramsey explained that even though Neil Druckmann has left the popular HBO series, his creative influence will still be felt throughout the show’s universe.

Ramsey believes he left the project in a strong position and will always be remembered as its creator. Even though he’s no longer involved, his influence remains, and Ramsey is confident things will continue to go well.

Ramsey also mentioned in the interview that they have received the scripts for Season 3, but haven’t had a chance to read them yet.

Druckmann was a key creative force on the TV series, serving as a co-showrunner, director, writer, and producer. This isn’t the first time Ramsey has commented on Druckmann leaving the show. Back in 2025, Ramsey stated, “He’ll be missed on set, but his influence will live on in the story.”

Neil Druckmann will be leaving The Last of Us after its current season to dedicate himself to writing and directing Naughty Dog’s new game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. He called working on the TV series a peak moment in his career and expressed his appreciation for his collaboration with Craig Mazin. Mazin will continue with The Last of Us for its third season, which could potentially be the show’s final one.

Danny Ramirez, who played Manny in Season 2, won’t be returning for Season 3 because of scheduling issues. The part will be played by a different actor.
