The Last Of Us Season 2 Timeline Won’t Be Same As The Game

In April, HBO’s hit series The Last of Us begins its long-awaited second season. Recently, a significant detail about the new season has been revealed. During an interview, showrunner Craig Mazin stated that unlike the game, Season 2 won’t strictly adhere to its timeline. Instead, it will deviate from the game’s sequence of events, though Mazin didn’t specify how. However, he did mention that any deviations were thoughtfully crafted to create a compelling television narrative.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mazin explained that the time manipulation in our series deviates from the original source material but in a manner that suits the show’s style. When he says “messed around,” he means that they approached the scientific aspects of time travel in a storytelling way to create the most dramatic impact.

In The Last of Us Part II video game, the narrative wasn’t strictly linear; instead, players switched between controlling Ellie and Abby. Neil Druckmann, another producer, hinted that revealing the story structure for The Last of Us Season 2 could be a spoiler, but he did mention they experimented with various approaches before deciding on the final presentation seen on screen.

He remarked, “It might be intriguing for those acquainted with the game to figure out our strategy when we arrived at that challenge in the show. Instead, I’ll share that we put considerable effort into planning and experimented with various approaches. There were some variations in our placement choices.

The interview brimmed with details about The Last of Us Season 2. Notably, the showrunners clarified that Abby (played by Kaitlyn Dever) would not undergo significant muscle building as her game counterpart did. Additionally, they disclosed that Season 2 will introduce a character who was merely hinted at in the games and also unveil a completely new character not featured in the original series.

The makers of The Last of Us TV series are bracing themselves for passionate reactions about Season 2. Previously, Mazin expressed his expectation that there will be intense debate over Season 2 and its departures from the game. Mazin stated he is merely trying to make the best decisions for the story, regardless of whether people approve or not.

He mentioned that our actions aren’t intended to please or displease individuals on social media. Instead, we act based on what we believe is correct, and we hope that others will join us and appreciate the journey.

This upcoming April, The Last of Us Season 2 is set to premiere on both HBO and Max. At this point, a precise launch date hasn’t been disclosed. However, prepare for a video game adaptation bonanza in April, as “A Minecraft Movie” (April 4) and the “Until Dawn” movie (April 25) will also make their debuts that month.

Regarding the game series, Druckmann has hinted strongly that The Last of Us Part 3 is being developed. Currently, developer Naughty Dog is working on two single-player games. One is titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, while many believe the other to be The Last of Us Part 3.

In the meantime, The Last of Us Part II Remastered is set to arrive on PC in April, but keep in mind that you’ll need a PlayStation Network account to play it.
