Thanks to the ongoing success of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park franchise, dinosaurs continue to be incredibly popular. The recent release of Jurassic World Rebirth at the end of October has led to even more people watching the films.
According to FlixPatrol, Jurassic World Rebirth has been the most popular movie on Peacock for the past three days. Its release has also sparked renewed interest in the entire Jurassic series, with the first four films all appearing in the streaming service’s Top 10. Jurassic Park is currently in second place, followed by The Lost World: Jurassic Park at No. 5, Jurassic World at No. 8, and Jurassic Park III at No. 9. Only Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World Dominion haven’t made it into Peacock’s Top 10.
Besides “Trolls Band Together,” Peacock viewers are also really enjoying several other popular movies. Both versions of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” – the animated one from 2018 (currently at No. 3) and the live-action version from 2000 (at No. 6) – are still very popular even after Halloween. The “How to Train Your Dragon” movies are also doing well, with the first live-action remake at No. 4 and the sequel at No. 10. Rounding out the top ten is “The Croods” at No. 7, another favorite from DreamWorks Animation.
Jurassic Park Is Still Going Strong 32 Years Later
The Jurassic Park series, which began with Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel, has been popular for thirty years. There was a 14-year gap between the release of Jurassic Park III in 2001 and later films. Steven Spielberg directed the first two movies – Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World (1997) – which together earned $1.6 billion around the world. Although Spielberg hasn’t directed any of the sequels, he continues to be involved as an executive producer.
After Jurassic Park III didn’t do well with critics or at the box office, the Jurassic Park series went on hold for many years. In 2015, Universal Pictures brought the franchise back with Jurassic World, which surprisingly became a huge success with moviegoers. It became the highest-earning film in the series, bringing in $1.67 billion worldwide. Two more films, Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, were released in 2018 and 2022, respectively. Additionally, two animated series, Camp Cretaceous and Chaos Theory, were created for Netflix, both featuring a new set of characters.
The newest Jurassic film, Rebirth, was different from previous movies because it didn’t include any characters from earlier installments. Despite this change, the movie was a huge success, earning over $861 million worldwide. Although Universal hasn’t officially confirmed it, reliable insider Daniel Richtman reported in September that they are starting to develop another Jurassic film. This next movie is expected to feature Scarlett Johansson, who played Zora Bennett in Rebirth, reprising her role as the skilled operations expert. No other information about the project has been released yet.
