The Jonas Brothers Loved Poking Fun At Themselves In A Very Jonas Christmas (Even Though They Vetoed A Few Ideas)

Okay, so the Jonas Brothers just dropped A Very Jonas Christmas Movie on Disney+, and it’s…a lot. The whole premise is them desperately trying to get home for the holidays, and honestly, it felt like a really sweet, musical version of Planes, Trains & Automobiles – every attempt at travel just spectacularly failed. There’s plenty of new music, which is great, and they’re clearly willing to poke fun at themselves, which I appreciated. Apparently, some of the jokes were too self-deprecating, though – they actually had to shut down a few ideas! It’s fluffy, festive fun, and if you’re a Jonas Brothers fan, you’ll probably love it.

The new movie, A Very Jonas Christmas Movie, is full of playful banter between Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas as they poke fun at each other and play heightened versions of themselves. Nick is portrayed as the responsible one, Joe as the carefree and charming brother, and Kevin as the one who still calls New Jersey home. The trio discussed the movie with People magazine during their October 2025 cover shoot, and Nick explained how the idea for A Very Jonas Christmas Movie first came about.

We shared our experiences through personal stories, aiming to give the audience an honest and authentic glimpse into our lives. We focused on being open and vulnerable while still respecting our privacy.

The three actors shared a lot of genuinely fun moments, and while they were playing somewhat heightened versions of themselves, they aimed for authenticity. Nick explained they quickly realized the on-screen dynamic mirrored their real-life relationship – they simply amplified it for the show.

They quickly understood the relationships between us. The first draft of the script already felt true to life, so we decided to emphasize those dynamics even more as we refined it.

I was really touched by how honestly the documentary showed the Jonas Brothers and their whole family – there were some incredibly real, vulnerable moments. But it wasn’t all serious! There were also these wildly funny scenes, especially when they were playfully teasing each other with those running jokes. Apparently, they weren’t afraid to cut things that felt too far-fetched, though. Joe actually said they vetoed a bunch of ideas to keep it from getting completely out of control, which I really appreciated – it felt authentic because of that.

Plenty of times.

They didn’t share what other ideas were rejected, and that was probably for the best. Making A Very Jonas Christmas Movie was a lot of fun for everyone involved, both while filming and behind the scenes. Kevin remembered how enjoyable it was figuring out the jokes that made the final cut.

I think that was some of the fun dynamic actually on set as well.

While it would have been great to see a version of A Very Jonas Christmas Movie with the Jonas Brothers fully embracing self-deprecating humor, the movie was still enjoyable. Joe Jonas has also mentioned wanting to make more holiday films with his brothers, which is exciting! And fans can look forward to the long-awaited Camp Rock 3 next summer, where Connect 3 promises to go all out.
