Brittany Snow’s new Netflix series, The Beast in Me, quickly gained attention, but it hasn’t quite surpassed the captivating drama of The Hunting Wives, which also came out this year. The Beast in Me, released on November 13th, stars Claire Danes as Aggie Wiggs, a well-known author grieving the death of her son. She becomes increasingly fixated on her new neighbor, Nile Jarvis, played by Matthew Rhys.
Chloë Snow plays Nina Jarvis, the second wife of Nile, who married him after his first wife, Madison, vanished. While the film The Beast in Me initially received perfect reviews and a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes (it’s now at 83%), it isn’t as good as another thriller, The Hunting Wives, which currently has a score of 76%.

From the start of The Hunting Wives, it’s clear Sophie O’Neil, played by Brittany Snow, is keeping things hidden. She’s new to East Texas, having moved from Boston with her family because of her husband Graham’s (Evan Jonigkeit) work. Sophie feels like an outsider, especially when she attends an NRA fundraiser thrown by Graham’s employer, Jed Banks (Dermot Mulroney).
Jed’s wife, Margo (played by Malin Akerman), quickly befriends Sophie and invites her to hang out with her group of friends, known as the Hunting Wives. Sophie is drawn into Margo’s fast-paced lifestyle of guns and drinking, and Margo, like the audience, becomes intensely curious about what Sophie is hiding.
However, that’s just the beginning. The central mystery of The Hunting Wives revolves around the murder of Abby, a popular high school cheerleader (played by Madison Wolfe). As Sophie gets involved in the investigation, a web of secrets unravels, including the truth about a missing girl and numerous affairs.
Every plot twist in The Hunting Wives is surprisingly engaging, and the storylines get increasingly scandalous without feeling gratuitous. The show is boldly and playfully outrageous, managing to be both entertaining and suspenseful without taking itself too seriously. This makes it stand out from more serious thrillers like The Beast in Me, which is good, but doesn’t offer the same invigorating experience.
Brittany Snow Is Even Better In The Hunting Wives Than In The Beast In Me
2025 is shaping up to be a breakout year for Brittany Snow. While she was previously known for her roles in teen movies like Hairspray and the Pitch Perfect series, she’s now taking on more mature projects with the thrilling and intense The Hunting Wives and The Beast in Me.
Naomi Watts is excellent in both Netflix thrillers, and at first glance, the two characters she plays seem alike – both are wealthy women in marriages dominated by their husbands. However, Sophie and Nina are far more complex than they appear.
In The Hunting Wives, the character of Snow is more developed, allowing readers to really get to know her. We become deeply invested in Sophie’s story, even though she remains enigmatic. While the reveals about her – like how she met her husband or her capacity for violence – are surprising, they feel foreshadowed and not entirely out of the blue.
In The Beast in Me, Nina also has hidden aspects to her personality, but because she’s a secondary character largely defined by her marriage, the story doesn’t explore her inner thoughts and feelings as deeply as it does Sophie’s.
Okay, let me tell you, Brittany Snow absolutely kills it in “The Hunting Wives.” Seriously, she’s phenomenal. Whether she’s playing this anxious wife and mom, trying way too hard to be one of the girls, or even as the main suspect in a murder, she just nails every single scene. And that motel breakdown? Forget about it! It’s hands down the best performance of her career, and honestly, it’s what makes this Netflix thriller so much better than most. I’m telling you, watch it for her performance alone!
