Originally, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was meant to start this new phase, but WandaVision ultimately launched it instead. Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, WandaVision is considered Marvel’s most inventive project, cleverly using different sitcom styles to tell a heartbreaking story.
Beyond its unique way of telling a story, WandaVision also delivered what many consider the most memorable line in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. In episode 8, titled “Previously On,” the show began to explain the events surrounding Westview, and a key part of that explanation involved looking back at Wanda’s life before she created the town. This included a touching scene between Wanda and Vision during the time of Captain America: Civil War, when Wanda was deeply grieving the loss of her brother Pietro, adding to the pain she’d already experienced.
Even as a newly created robot, Vision offered Wanda a deeply moving sentiment: “But what is grief, if not love persevering?” This wasn’t just a comforting phrase; it helped her see her pain as proof of the love she had experienced, even amidst tragedy. Released in 2021, while the world was still grieving the pandemic, the line struck a chord with many facing loss. It continues to resonate today because love and loss are fundamental parts of being human, ensuring Vision’s words will always hold meaning.
WandaVision Has Aged Well 5 Years Later
While the Infinity Saga was hugely popular, some fans felt it became predictable. Marvel Studios seemed to learn from this with the start of the Multiverse Saga, beginning with WandaVision. The show instantly captivated audiences—both longtime Marvel fans and newcomers—because it felt so fresh and different from anything Marvel had done before. Creator Jac Schaeffer and her team crafted a truly engaging story that remains well-regarded today.
Although WandaVision didn’t get a direct follow-up series, it launched a connected storyline within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with the memorable “Agatha All Along” and continuing with the upcoming VisionQuest show. Plus, characters from WandaVision have appeared in other Marvel projects, proving how well-received it was. Even five years later, WandaVision remains an excellent show, enjoyable for both dedicated MCU fans and newcomers alike.
