This paper, ‘Stability of AI Governance Systems: A Coupled Dynamics Model of Public Trust and Social Disruptions’, addresses this gap by presenting a coupled dynamics model-integrating a Hawkes process for controversy generation with a Friedkin-Johnsen opinion dynamics framework-to demonstrate that declining trust and escalating negative events can create a self-reinforcing loop leading to systemic collapse, delineated by the condition \rho(J_{2nt}) < 1. Our analysis reveals how network structures and media amplification exacerbate this fragility, suggesting that even minor algorithmic biases can trigger irreversible trust breakdown without robust institutional intervention. This allows for the observation of cascading effects – where an initial incident influences subsequent events and opinions – and enables the prediction of how trust levels may change in response to ongoing AI developments, providing a more nuanced and actionable risk profile than static evaluations.
Predicting Collapse: A Stability Analysis
Stability Analysis, as applied to the Baseline Collapse Model, assesses the system’s convergence or divergence through the calculation of the Spectral Radius, denoted as ρ(J₂ₙ). This metric represents the maximum absolute value of the eigenvalues of the Jacobian matrix J₂ₙ, which characterizes the system’s local behavior. A Spectral Radius less than one indicates convergence – meaning the system will return to a stable equilibrium after a perturbation.
