The Elder Scrolls Online is changing how it adds new content with the arrival of Seasons. These Seasons will bring significant updates to the game.
ZeniMax Online Studios recently announced updates to their popular online game, delivering new content in smaller, focused releases instead of one large update.
Seasons are the result of this change, and the developer detailed what to expect from this shift.
The Elder Scrolls Online Seasons Explained
Each in-game season will last three months, beginning with ‘Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk’ on April 2, 2026. Each season will introduce new content like areas to explore, stories, gameplay mechanics, character classes, and abilities. We’ll also include the usual improvements you see in updates, like better performance and quality-of-life changes.
Dawn and Dusk is launching The Night Market, a special event area within the Fargrave realm of Oblivion. This limited-time experience will be available until July 8, 2026.
So, they’ve added a battle pass to Tamriel Tomes, which is cool! You can earn stuff on the free track, or if you want to go faster and get even more goodies, there’s a paid option too. It’s a nice way to keep me coming back for more!
Future updates are planned with exciting content like a new questline centered around a Thieves Guild, the return of the Daedric Prince Sheogorath, a challenging new end-game Trial, solo adventures in dungeons, and a fresh event taking place on the open ocean.
The big change with this new approach is that everyone who owns the base game of ESO will get access to the content released each Season at no extra cost.
As a long-time ESO player, I think one of the good things about the game is that it’s still relatively easy to get into. But honestly, the real reason ESO has stayed popular for so long is the consistently great expansions they release. It’s pretty rare to see that in these kinds of ongoing online games, and I’m really hoping the recent changes don’t mess with that success in the future.
