Ever since Microsoft bought Bethesda in 2021, fans worldwide have been wondering if The Elder Scrolls 6 will be released on PlayStation 5. At first, it seemed unlikely. Although Bethesda and Xbox representatives never explicitly said so, the expectation was that the game would only be available on platforms that support Xbox Game Pass. However, Microsoft’s approach to other platforms has shifted considerably since then.
Over the last year, Xbox has increasingly acted like a game publisher that isn’t tied to specific hardware. While they still make the Xbox Series X and S consoles, they’ve started releasing games on platforms beyond just Xbox and PC. We saw this with the release of Gears of War: Reloaded on PS5, and it’s happening again with the upcoming remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, which will also be available on PS5 from day one. This means even Xbox’s biggest games aren’t exclusive to their consoles anymore. Although these initial releases are remasters or remakes of older titles, Xbox’s recent moves suggest a clear direction for the company – one that will likely affect the future of The Elder Scrolls 6.
Fable Proves That Xbox Is Done With Exclusives, Even For a Limited Time

This week, Xbox gave fans a complete look at gameplay for the upcoming Fable reboot. While originally intended only for Xbox Series X/S and PC, it was announced that the game will also be available on PS5. Unlike Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 6, Fable will launch on PlayStation at the same time as it does on Xbox and PC.
While it’s not unexpected that Fable is coming to PlayStation 5, the fact that it’s available on the same day as its Xbox release is a surprise. Unlike previous games like Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which were released on PS5 later, Xbox is launching Fable on both platforms simultaneously. This is a significant change in Xbox’s recent approach to PlayStation releases and suggests how future Xbox and affiliated titles will be handled. Over time, this new strategy will likely influence all of Xbox’s releases.
Xbox games will likely be available on PS5, but sometimes a game might take a little longer to release on PlayStation if the developers need extra time to adapt it. A good example is Forza Horizon 6, which will come to Xbox and PC before it’s released on PS5.
Bethesda Game Studios shouldn’t have any trouble bringing The Elder Scrolls 6 to PlayStation 5. They have a long history of developing games for PlayStation consoles and will likely have plenty of time to prepare a PS5 version, starting well before the game’s release. This makes a PS5 launch for The Elder Scrolls 6 very likely.
Will The Elder Scrolls 6 Even Be a PS5 Game?

The biggest uncertainty about The Elder Scrolls 6 and its release on PS5 is whether it will even be available on current consoles. Bethesda hasn’t said when the next Elder Scrolls game will come out, so it’s possible it will be built for future consoles instead. This could mean it ends up being a PS6 game, skipping the PS5 entirely.
So, I’ve been hearing some chatter that the PlayStation 6 might be delayed – like, a lot delayed. Apparently, the cost of RAM is going way up, and that’s making Sony (and other console makers) reconsider when to release the PS6. If it doesn’t come out until around 2030, it’s actually possible we could see The Elder Scrolls 6 on the PS5 instead! That would be amazing, honestly.
We still have many unanswered questions about The Elder Scrolls 6, but one thing is certain: PlayStation players will be able to play the game when it’s released. Hopefully, Bethesda will share more concrete details about the game’s release date as we move further into 2026.
