The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, have shared a first look at their upcoming sci-fi series for Netflix, The Boroughs. Set to release in 2026, the show, which the Duffer Brothers are executive producing, blends realistic storytelling with a monstrous science fiction element.
Netflix has given fans a first glimpse of its upcoming series, The Boroughs, expected to premiere in 2026. The released photos feature the show’s cast – including Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Bill Pullman, and Alfre Woodard – in different settings, but don’t reveal much about the plot. You can see the images below.
The Boroughs tells the story of residents in a retirement community who band together to battle a supernatural creature threatening to take their remaining years. The show stars a cast including Clarke Peters, Denis O’Hare, Jena Malone, Carlos Miranda, Seth Numrich, and Alice Kremelberg, alongside the four previously announced leads. The number of episodes is currently unknown.
Beyond the leads, you’ll recognize some fantastic recurring faces like Rafael Casal, Ed Begley Jr., Jane Kaczmarek, Eric Edelstein, Dee Wallace, and Mousa Hussein Kraish. While the Duffer Brothers – those guys behind Stranger Things – are involved as executive producers with their Upside Down Pictures, the real creative force behind The Boroughs is Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, who dreamed up this series. Ben Taylor handled the directing, bringing their vision to life.
The Duffer Brothers are creating two separate series, with the first, The Boroughs, expected in 2026. The second series, Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, follows a couple navigating a chaotic week before their wedding. Starring Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco, this series was developed by showrunner Haley Z. Boston.
With Stranger Things finished, the Duffer Brothers are already working on new projects. Their next show, The Boroughs, will be quite different from what they’ve done before, centering on adults battling a sinister force. It’s unclear if The Boroughs will be released before the Duffer Brothers move to Paramount in April 2026 after their deal with Netflix ends.
While the first look at The Boroughs doesn’t give away much about the story, the cast and crew suggest it will be a captivating supernatural series full of surprises. Though we don’t know when it will premiere, everything points to this being a potential hit for Netflix.
