When The Crew 2 first came out in 2018, players couldn’t play the online racing game without an internet connection. After seven years of requests, Ubisoft has now added a long-awaited offline mode to the game.
I’m so excited! Ubisoft just released an update for The Crew 2 on PC that lets me play offline with something called Hybrid Mode. If you’re on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, the update should be coming to you later today, too! Finally, we can enjoy the open road even without an internet connection.
When you start The Crew 2, you can now choose to play online or offline. If you’re not connected to the internet, the game will automatically switch to offline mode. Keep in mind that your progress in each mode is saved separately – offline achievements won’t transfer to your online game. However, you can back up your online save file to your computer or console and then load it into the offline mode.
If you transfer your progress, you’ll keep all the content you’ve unlocked with the Season Pass, your vehicles, and any rewards – as long as you’ve claimed them before transferring. However, some features won’t be available in offline mode.
- Crew Credits purchases (vehicle bundles, vanity items) and the Far & Beyond shop in all 4 Hubs.
- LIVE Summits.
- All multiplayer content, including PvP, Crews, crew features, news feed, leaderboards, ghosts, and statistics menus. Only your own best times will be recorded per race.
- UGC features, including the Race Creator and Livery Editor. Custom liveries will not transfer to offline saves.
- Some Hobbies and Achievements (Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Ubisoft Connect) that require online-only actions.
Last year, Ubisoft removed the game *The Crew* from sale without adding a way to play it offline, which meant players could no longer access it. This led to a lawsuit from some frustrated gamers. In response, Ubisoft pledged to add offline modes to both *The Crew 2* and *The Crew Motorfest*. *The Crew 2* has now received this update, but there’s no confirmed date yet for when *The Crew Motorfest* will get its offline mode.
Earlier this year, a fan-made recreation of the first game called The Crew Unlimited went online.
