After almost two years since allegations of charity fraud surfaced, gaming YouTuber Jirard ‘The Completionist’ Khalil has shared a new update regarding the Department of Justice’s investigation into his situation.
In November 2023, YouTubers Mutahar, also known as SomeOrdinaryGamers, and Karl Jobst publicly claimed that Khalil and his charity, the Open Hand Foundation, had committed fraud.
They accused the foundation of holding back over $600,000 in donations meant for dementia research since its establishment in 2014, and also of not reporting all of its income.
In a recent video, Jobst explained he spoke with Khalil. According to Jirard, the full amount of money is still available and they plan to donate it quickly. However, because of past issues with Open Hand’s trustworthiness, Jobst believes they should receive solid confirmation when the donation is actually made.
In December 2023, Khalil released an 18-minute YouTube video responding to the controversy. In the video, he acknowledged he should have donated the funds sooner and announced he was stepping down from his position at Open Hand. He also stated that he successfully transferred the $600,000 to the Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration on November 29th.
Despite the criticism, he maintained he hadn’t broken any laws and claimed Mutahar and Jobst published their report with a personal agenda. He also stated he planned to pursue legal options against them.
In January 2024, Khalil briefly appeared on Twitch to announce that he had greatly reduced the size of the team at Open Hand. He explained he couldn’t share further details because of legal issues and quickly removed the recording of the stream.
So, Khalil hadn’t really said much for about a year and a half, but he finally dropped a new video on YouTube on September 25th, 2025! It was a pretty long one, about 45 minutes, and everyone was waiting for it.
The Completionist says DOJ hasn’t wrapped up investigation after 1 year
Khlail explained in the video that Open Hand was reported to the police en masse because of videos from Jobst and Mutahar, which led to a criminal investigation by the Department of Justice.
The Department of Justice informed Khalil in Fall 2024 that their investigation was complete and they planned to schedule a final interview to address any remaining concerns. However, almost a year has passed and that meeting still hasn’t been arranged.
Khalil, clearly upset, acknowledged it was time to put the matter behind him and vowed to share the investigation’s findings, regardless of what they revealed.
I kept being told by the Department of Justice that we were nearing the last meeting, that it was just around the corner. However, it’s now been over a year since those conversations, and I’ve remained quiet because I wanted to wait until I had the investigation’s results before speaking publicly.
Despite saying they’d like to meet one last time to resolve the matter, the Department of Justice isn’t responding to emails from Open Hand’s legal team.
Okay, so Khalil basically said he’s totally sure the claims about fraud and stealing money aren’t true. But he did admit he messed up, making some really bad choices and not being upfront about how Open Hand was run, which is why everything got so confusing. He’s saying he made mistakes, but denies any actual wrongdoing.
He took full responsibility, saying, “Even though things didn’t turn out as planned, my priority was always getting the money to the right charity quickly, and I’m very grateful that happened.”
The Completionist apologizes for “empty promises” & heralds “new beginning” for channel
He explained what happened, saying he’d argued with his family about how Open Hand’s donations should be distributed. This caused delays as he tried to get the money to the correct organizations quickly, all while dealing with losing his job at G4 and reorganizing his work team.
He discovered that charities often operate very slowly. After promoting these organizations and their work for years, he realized many of their commitments weren’t being fulfilled.
Ultimately, Khalil admitted he should have worked directly with the organization, resolved the issue immediately, and paid closer attention to how donations were being used.
He explained that this is a fresh start for him and his channel, and he plans to create completely different videos for his viewers.
