It’s no surprise that the show is leading in online views. The popular cartoon is back with a new way to watch, and just before Netflix revealed the cast for its upcoming live-action version of the story.
Four Scooby-Doo cartoons are currently popular on the Apple TV Store in the US, according to FlixPatrol. The classic series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, is ranked No. 3 on the Top TV Shows chart – a jump of eight places since yesterday. The New Scooby-Doo Movies is also doing well at No. 4, climbing four spots in just one day.
The newest Scooby-Doo series, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, is ranked tenth, making the biggest leap in the rankings – it climbed ten spots since yesterday. The classic cartoon A Pup Named Scooby-Doo is right outside the Top 10 at number twelve, improving five positions since yesterday.
Scooby-Doo Has Had Many Incarnations Over the Years
The popular Scooby-Doo series started in 1969 with the show Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears. It originally aired for two seasons on CBS, and a third season followed eight years later on ABC in 1978. The show centers on teenagers Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy, along with their dog Scooby-Doo, as they travel the country in the Mystery Machine, solving mysteries along the way.
Following the success of the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, Ruby and Spears brought the franchise back with The New Scooby-Doo Movies. This cartoon kept the same core idea as the first series – solving weekly mysteries – but added a fun twist: each episode featured a special guest star, such as Don Knotts, Dick Van Dyke, or the Three Stooges. The show ran for two seasons before ending in 1973.
After the end of The New Scooby-Doo Movies, we kept getting more Scooby-Doo shows, and honestly, it felt like the franchise was just keeping the momentum going. Then, in 1988, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo arrived on ABC and really switched things up. It was the first time we saw Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby as kids, running their own detective agency – which, looking back, feels like a precursor to the team we’d later see in Mystery Incorporated.
The series A Puppy Named Scooby-Doo was the final major installment until Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island came out in 1998. That movie was a hit and brought the franchise back to life for a new audience.
Following the popularity of Zombie Island, Warner Bros. created a series of Scooby-Doo movies released directly to video, continuing this run until 2023. A new animated series, What’s New, Scooby-Doo?, also aired for three seasons until 2006. This was then followed by the brief Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue! and later by Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.
Mystery Incorporated refreshed the Scooby-Doo series with a continuous storyline and a focus on the relationships and romantic lives of the characters. Running from 2010 to 2013, it was a notably long run with 52 episodes.
Scooby-Doo Is Heading to Netflix for Next TV Series
Similar to Mystery Incorporated, the upcoming Scooby-Doo series is a first for the franchise – it’s the first live-action TV series. While there have been five Scooby-Doo movies made with live actors, this is the first time the format will be used for a full series, and it will tell the story of how Mystery Incorporated came to be.
The cast for the upcoming movie was revealed earlier this month. Mckenna Grace will star as Daphne Blake, with Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers. Paul Walter Hauser will also appear, though his character hasn’t been announced yet.
