The latest episode of The Burbs finally revealed who killed Alison Grant, but the truth is surprisingly complex and includes a shocking twist. The central mystery of this new Peacock comedy thriller revolves around what happened to Alison, a young girl who vanished from her home at Ashfield Place in March 2005. Everyone in the village believed she was dead, but the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are far from simple.
Samira’s husband, Rob, overheard town gossip that Alison had been murdered by someone unknown, and the case was never solved. But the final episode of The Burbs finally explained what really happened to her.
What Really Happened to Alison Is Unpacked in The Burbs Episode 6

In The Burbs, the neighbors shared several ideas about what happened to Alison. Some thought her parents might have killed her and hidden the body in their basement, while Samira believed the new owner, Gary, was responsible and had returned simply to enjoy the fact he’d gotten away with it.
None of the fan theories turned out to be true. The show revealed its big surprise surprisingly early – by Episode 5, it was clear that Rob and Naveen had known Alison since childhood, and that she hadn’t died, but was actually living under the name Betsy Wilson, Gary’s wife.

It was revealed in The Burbs that Alison was first kidnapped by a man named John, who turned out to be Walters, the neighborhood garbage collector. This came as a surprise, as many viewers had suspected Gary, Rob, or Naveen instead.
Episode 6 showed that Alison didn’t actually die; she pretended to in order to escape Walters and go into hiding, living under the name Betsy. She staged her own death to throw investigators off the trail and protect herself from the real suspects.
She teamed up with Gary to figure out who had made her vanish. Gary was happy to help, as he was also trying to find his brother, Hank, who had gone missing.
At first, Samira, Rob, Naveen, and the other neighbors suspected Gary. However, Alison explained that he’d actually been helping them all along, working to identify the true culprits who thought they still lived on Ashfield Place.
The Real Suspects Get Unmasked in The Burbs Episode 8

The final episode of The Burbs revealed the shocking truth about what was happening on Ashfield Place and just how dangerous Walters is. He tricked Gary into thinking he knew something about Hank, then overpowered him and knocked him unconscious. Walters then imprisoned Samira and Alison in the bunker, leaving them with no way to get out.
A fight broke out, and Alison ended up hitting Walter in the head, causing his death. Naveen took the blame, and Danny, Agnes’ son-in-law and a police officer, ruled it as self-defense. Alison repaired her relationships with Rob, Naveen, and Samira before leaving town, but promised to stay in touch this time. She also entrusted Samira and Rob with the care of her old house, leaving them the key while she’s away.

The mystery deepened when it turned out Walters was just a mercenary, and Samira started to suspect the real culprits were much closer than anyone thought – Agnes and Kate, both involved with the Hinkley Hills Homeowners’ Association.
Samira realized that Agnes, Kate, and other members of the homeowner’s association were systematically removing anyone who challenged the town’s rules, all to protect Hinkley Hills’ image as America’s safest place. They were carefully planning these actions because Samira wanted to update Alison’s house to fit the neighborhood’s style, hoping to earn Hinkley Hills recognition as one of the best towns in the country.
A larger plot was unfolding in Hinkley Hills, culminating in Naveen being kidnapped by Kate. The season ended with her drugging him on their date and tying him up in her car, leaving viewers wondering what would happen to him and hinting at a possible continuation of the story.
