The Baltic Battalion faced a very difficult and dangerous path. The new content for Broken Arrow, which fans had been eagerly awaiting but was significantly delayed, has become almost mythical. Stories circulate about the battalion becoming stuck in the Čepkeliai marsh while attempting to reach their assigned border posts.
After a bit of a wait, Baltic Battalion has arrived, and it’s exactly what Broken Arrow needed. The game, released in June 2025, has been revitalized by this new addition.
The Baltic Battalion is a free downloadable addition that introduces a new team representing Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia to the game’s battlefields.
Broken Arrow: Baltic Battalion New Units

This update focuses on infantry and vehicles, giving players more ways to customize them based on the nation they represent. We’ve added new options for all 23 infantry units and 25 vehicles.
Baltic Battalion helps you build your army efficiently by letting you select infantry based on their country of origin, without sacrificing familiar unit types. This prevents a cluttered interface and streamlines army preparation.
Estonian infantry squads are equipped with Spike-SR launchers, which allow them to destroy armored vehicles directly, though this adds to their overall cost. Latvia’s reconnaissance teams and Lithuania’s Zaliukai special forces both specialize in fighting in cities.
Okay, so the Infiltrators got a big shake-up. Estonia and Latvia are still rocking the classic small sniper teams – you know, two or three guys. But Lithuania? They’re different. They brought in these KNT frogmen – four operators, and they’re all packing silenced MP5SDs. It really changes how you play them!
Anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) and man-portable air defense system (MANPADS) teams utilize different equipment setups. Notably, Estonian gunners using Piorun missiles carry two launchers each, unlike those using a single launcher.
The Leopard 2A8 tank and CV-9035 infantry fighting vehicle are the main vehicles in use. These are supported by a range of other vehicles including Lithuania’s Vilka IFV (based on the Boxer design), the Patria Pasi XA-180, armed Mercedes G-Wagons, the common M113, and the Type-X robotic ground vehicle.
The artillery includes powerful systems like the M109A5Ö Paladin, K9 Kõu, and PzH-2000 howitzers, along with the M113, which can also fire 120mm mortar rounds.
The Finnish E13TP heavy truck and the reliable Mercedes Unimog 4×4 are used to deliver supplies to the front lines. The Unimog also serves as the base for mounting both ZU-23 anti-aircraft guns and Mistral anti-aircraft missile systems.
The Baltic Battalion’s air defenses are strengthened with the addition of IRIS-T and NASAMS launchers. The NASAMS system can be equipped with different missile types: AIM-9s that track heat, standard AMRAAMs, or extended-range AMRAAM-ERs which have increased reach within the game.
I really like that in Baltic Battalion, you get to build your squads with soldiers from different nations, but they still fit into the classic infantry roles you’d expect. It’s cool to mix things up while keeping the gameplay familiar.
The air force received relatively limited additions, reflecting the country’s overall military capabilities. These include the C-27J Spartan transport aircraft and the L-39 Albatros trainer, which can also be equipped for light attack missions with short-range missiles, rockets, and bombs.
The AS-365 Dauphin helicopter is equipped for both rocket and gunpod attacks, or can use a combination of both. In contrast, the UH-60M Black Hawk is limited to machine guns and grenade launchers for its side gunners.
The Baltic Battalion DLC features units that may not have a lot of tanks or heavy vehicles, but they are equipped with up-to-date weapons and technology. This makes them ideal for fighting a smarter, more flexible war against larger Russian forces. They have plenty of anti-tank weapons, which will quickly disable or destroy enemy armor.
The Leopard 2A8 has significantly better optics than the American M1A2 SEP v2, and the CV-90 is far more advanced than any vehicle in the BMP series. As with most multiplayer game updates, this patch has sparked debate about game balance. Although the Russian forces could use some improvements, Broken Arrow: Baltic Battalion adds welcome diversity and is helping to make this one of the best modern warfare RTS games available.
Broken Arrow is currently available for PC on Steam, with a 15% sale running until April 6th.
