Be warned: this article reveals key plot points from the first two episodes of The Boys Season 5. Homelander, played by Antony Starr, is widely considered one of television’s most dangerous villains. As the Amazon Prime Video show begins its final season, he’s become even more powerful and determined to maintain control. Interestingly, the show previously hinted at his biggest vulnerability through a character introduced in the spin-off series, Gen V.
This plot point felt like it would be central to the story, and it still might be by the end of the series. However, the key element that could stop the all-powerful hero was missing from the first two episodes, leaving viewers wondering why. It remains to be seen if these separate storylines will connect later on.
Marie Moreau From ‘Gen V’ Could Be Homelander’s Biggest Adversary

The events of Gen V happen at the same time as The Boys. Gen V is set at Godolkin University, a college specifically for superheroes. After the season four finale of The Boys, Starlight (played by Erin Moriarty) appeared in season two of Gen V. She went to see Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair), a hero with blood-bending abilities, and asked for her help investigating a mysterious project called Odessa.
Marie discovered she was created as part of a Vought experiment, the same one that produced Homelander. The project tragically killed all the other children involved, leaving only Marie and Homelander as survivors – making them, in a way, siblings through science.
Throughout Season 2 of Gen V, Marie gained control of her abilities and realized just how strong she is. With the help of her fellow young superheroes, she defeated Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater), the person behind the program they were all part of. This suggested she might even be powerful enough to challenge Homelander. However, the first episodes of The Boys Season 5 appear to ignore her completely.
When the group reunites, Annie mentions that Marie and her friends have had some successes, but not nearly enough to explain why they’re missing. This feels like a weak excuse, especially considering that Marie and her friends met with Annie and A-Train at the end of Gen V Season 2 to discuss plans. If The Boys are gearing up to fight Homelander, it doesn’t make sense that Marie wouldn’t be involved.
The Kids Could Be Coming in ‘The Boys’

Marie could play a significant role in the final season of The Boys. It’s possible she and her group are operating independently, believing Annie Janewick has the situation under control. With Billy Butcher possessing a dangerous virus targeting Supes, Annie might be deliberately keeping Marie and the other young heroes safe from it. While Annie is prepared to sacrifice herself if the virus is unleashed, she seems hesitant to risk the lives of the teens, perhaps hoping they can rebuild society afterward. It’s unclear why Marie isn’t involved or actively trying to join the fight, and the most likely reason appears to be keeping The Boys separate from the spin-off series.
The trailer for The Boys Season 5 shows a quick glimpse of Marie and Jordan (played by London Thor and Derek Luh) alongside Annie, and it seems they’ll appear in the new season. Annie warns them that they all need to escape, however possible. But, because Marie recently found out she can revive people, she’s a powerful ally to have when trouble arises.
Many viewers are hoping Marie’s abilities will play a major role in the current season of Gen V, and possibly even into a potential third season. With the show being so popular, fans are wondering why it hasn’t been officially renewed yet. Amazon might be waiting until after The Boys finale to share more about the future of both shows. But first, we need to learn more about what Marie’s powers mean for the story.
‘The Boys’ Needs Marie as Homelander’s Biggest Foe

It feels like a missed opportunity that Marie is introduced so briefly. Simply saying the teens are occupied with other conflicts doesn’t fully explain why she’s sidelined, especially considering her potential to genuinely provoke Homelander. This would be even more impactful if he learned they share surprising similarities.
Ignoring Marie’s potential would be a huge mistake, like intentionally sending a weaker fighter against easy opponents while letting your best fighter sit on the bench. Season 2 of Gen V heavily established Marie as a very powerful hero and connected her story to both Annie and Homelander, so it wouldn’t make sense to not utilize her.
However, there’s also the challenge of keeping things clear for viewers who are fans of The Boys but haven’t seen Gen V yet. If Marie is heavily involved in the plot, it could be confusing – people might wonder who she is and why she’s suddenly fighting alongside these characters. It’s a tricky situation that needs to be handled carefully, and I hope it makes sense in the story. Ultimately, I’d love to see the worlds of The Boys and Gen V truly connect, and especially to see Marie and Homelander interact again.
If Marie were to win against Homelander, it would create an interesting path for a third season of Gen V. However, it wouldn’t be the ideal conclusion for The Boys overall. While fans are eager for a satisfying ending, it needs to fit within the story we’ve already been told. Gen V‘s existence adds a layer of complexity for viewers who aren’t fully invested in the entire franchise. But for those who are, it’s hard not to question why Marie hasn’t confronted Homelander to get her revenge. Why isn’t she using his need for connection and family against him, especially given their shared scientific background?
Even though Homelander and Marie aren’t related by birth, they were both created through the same scientific project, making them siblings in that sense. Regardless of whether Homelander lives or dies, it’s important for him to discover he wasn’t the only one created by the project, and that his belief in being the strongest Supe is false. Their first encounter was brief and frightening for Marie, with Homelander immediately taking her captive. At the time, she hadn’t yet discovered her own incredible abilities. Seeing Homelander’s reaction to realizing just how powerful Marie is, and learning about her origins, would make her appearance truly impactful.
