The Boys Season 5 trailer has landed, confirming the superhero series will return on April 8, 2026. But you may have missed a hidden detail that suggests Homelander (Antony Starr) will become an even more terrifying threat to Butcher (Karl Urban) and co.
This would be quite the issue given Homelander has been the most powerful supe in The Boys. However, with Marie (Jaz Sinclair) and the Gen V kids now a part of the resistance, he’s got some serious competition.
The trailer for Season 5 shows Butcher preparing the team for a final battle, and he’s secretly armed with a virus targeting superpowered individuals. While this likely means some beloved characters will die, the show promises a huge and impactful finale – “Big stuff’s gonna happen.”
One scene depicts Homelander brutally attacking someone off-screen. Another shows him gaining power in a new and surprising way, and this quick moment might reveal how he’s doing it.

If you watch closely around 1 minute and 26 seconds, you’ll see Homelander’s eye lasers get incredibly bright. Right as this happens, a syringe appears briefly in the upper left corner of the screen.
Is it possible he gained new abilities by taking a version of Compound V? If so, that would make him a much more dangerous opponent in the upcoming conflict in The Boys Season 5.
A Reddit user noticed something unusual: a syringe on the ground followed by an incredibly powerful laser beam from Homelander. They speculate this could be a new method he’s using to enhance his already immense power.
If you recall Season 4, you’ll remember Homelander began to show his age – something he was deeply disturbed by, like when he discovered a grey hair.

He may have used V-One, the original formula for Compound V, which grants incredible superpowers and significantly extends life. This would have both enhanced his abilities and stopped him from aging.
One fan suggested that V1 likely offers a way to halt aging and gain enhanced abilities. Alternatively, they proposed it could be another dose of V, similar to A-Train’s reliance on the drug in the first season, providing only a temporary boost in power.
One person agreed, suggesting the V serum would be perfect for someone constantly displaying visible signs of aging. Another speculated he could obtain it from a source like Soldier Boy to halt the aging process.
One player suggested an unsettling idea: if Ryan dies, he somehow absorbs his own life force, dramatically increasing his power.

Someone proposed he use V-One to prevent aging, but he was ultimately defeated by The Boys, which was rather ironic.
Someone joked online that the current events in the story might actually be a way to slow down HL’s aging, even though they believe he’s destined to either die or lose his powers by the end. They added that he won’t get any positive outcome from what’s happening.
This is likely a reference to how the original The Boys comic book series concluded, with Homelander and several other key characters dying. However, the showrunner, Eric Kripke, could decide to tell a different story in the TV series.
So, someone else pointed out, what if he doesn’t do what we expect? Wouldn’t it be a crazy twist if he just blew up the Earth because he was ticked off at everyone? And they wondered if that second screenshot we saw was actually taken from the Moon!
Okay, so Season 5 of The Boys isn’t dropping until April 8th, 2025 – a long wait, I know! To keep me busy until then, I’ve been digging into everything about the ‘Vought Rising’ spin-off. I’m also trying to predict which two characters are gonna bite the dust next season, and I’ve even ranked all the deaths from Season 4. Gotta stay prepared, right?
