The Boys Season 5: Can Marie’s Unique Power Take Down Homelander?

The trailer for The Boys season 5 suggests major events are coming in the show’s final season, and a brief scene reminds viewers which character possesses the ability to defeat Homelander (played by Antony Starr). Season 5 appears to quickly reunite the main group.

With the series ending after eight episodes, it’s expected that some important characters will die. The most likely candidate is Homelander, the show’s main villain who pretends to be a hero. While it won’t be simple, one character possesses the ability to defeat him.

The Boys Season 5 Trailer Confirms Marie & Others From Gen V

Season 5 of The Boys will feature returning favorites, and the newest trailer reveals characters from Gen V will also play a role. Specifically, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) is shown bringing Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and Jordan Li (London Thor and Derek Luh) into the mix.

We briefly saw a similar scene in the last episode of Gen V season 2, and highlighting it now likely means those characters will be important in what happens next. Marie’s power to control blood, combined with Jordan’s incredible strength and energy blasts, would definitely be an asset in a fight against Vaught.

The fourth season of The Boys ended with some students from Godolkin University supporting Homelander. But the season finale of Gen V revealed that Cate Dunlap and Sam Riordan are now working with Starlight and A-Train, suggesting a massive showdown where nearly everyone will be up against Homelander – and even then, it might not be enough to defeat him.

Marie Can Kill Homelander, Especially After Gen V Season 2

Everyone always believed Homelander was the most powerful Supe. Even Soldier Boy, the man who inspired and fathered him, needed help from Hughie and Butcher – and even then, it wasn’t guaranteed – to have a chance at defeating him. The only person who might actually be able to beat Homelander is Marie.

Season 2 of Gen V revealed more about Marie’s abilities, establishing that she’s distinct from Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), who also has some control over blood. Marie appears to manipulate blood on a fundamental, atomic level, and can even revive people – a power that’s completely new to the series.

In season 2 of Gen V, Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) reveals that Marie and Homelander were the only two subjects of the Odessa Project to successfully develop powers, suggesting they’re equally powerful. Marie’s ability to control blood could be the key to overcoming Homelander’s incredible strength and durability, potentially even stopping him with a blood clot – just like anyone else.

How The Gen V Gang Change The Dynamic In The Boys Season 5

The introduction of Godolkin University students as super-powered individuals in season 5 of The Boys is poised to significantly impact the show’s direction. While more and more ‘Supes’ have joined the fight against Homelander over the past four seasons, it’s been a complicated issue, as Butcher remains determined to eliminate all powered people.

Things get really complicated when Butcher starts using Compound V. It’s no longer a simple fight between people who hate superheroes and the powerful corporation, Vought, and its leader, Homelander. Now, a team of powered individuals – those who’ve had abilities since birth – are fighting against the very people who gave them those powers.

This shifts the situation considerably. Now, some superheroes will be genuinely acting like the heroes Butcher and his team always claimed Homelander was pretending to be – actually saving people. The big question is: once these Supes demonstrate they can be heroes, will they be allowed to continue using their powers?

Will The Boys Season 5 Really End With Marie Killing Homelander?

With Gen V now connected to The Boys, and students from Godolkin University siding with Butcher, Marie and her unique abilities are in the mix. However, that doesn’t guarantee she’ll be the one to defeat Homelander. We still haven’t seen the limits of her powers, and the show could establish that Homelander’s blood is just as powerful as he is.

The main reason Marie likely won’t kill Homelander is simply that most fans of The Boys probably aren’t familiar with her character. Gen V has always been a spin-off show, and because The Boys is far more popular, many viewers haven’t had the chance to watch Gen V and therefore don’t know Marie.

I never thought I’d see the main villain go down by someone who showed up so late in the game – season 5 is pretty late! But honestly, The Boys loves to surprise us, so I’m starting to think Homelander might be taken out by someone he completely overlooked. It’s crazy to think, but maybe Marie is the key to everything, the one who’s going to finally take him down.
