A background actor on the set of The Boys Season 5 shared a story about an embarrassing incident during filming. When someone’s phone rang, Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, stayed in character and reacted as the superhero would – making the situation even more awkward.

As we mentioned in our Season 5 review, Homelander remains the most compelling villain on television. Over almost seven years, the character has become increasingly erratic, and Antony Starr’s portrayal has consistently been excellent.

Joe, known online as @hackermanjoe, experienced this directly when he was an extra in Season 5, Episode 2 of the superhero show. He was part of the crowd shown behind Homelander, Sister Sage, and Firecracker at A-Train’s funeral.

So, The Boys Season 5 just dropped, and I totally spotted Joe in the background of an episode! He posted a pic on X showing where he was sitting during filming and joked about having a ‘very pivotal cameo.’ It was a fun little Easter egg for fans, honestly.

Joe recently shared a story about what happened on set. Apparently, someone’s phone rang while they were filming, but the actress, Starr, didn’t break character – she stayed fully immersed in her role.

I can finally share this story! During filming, someone’s phone rang, and it was terrifying. Antony Starr, completely in character as Homelander, stopped everything and glared at the audience, telling them in a very harsh way to turn off their phones. It was honestly the scariest thing I’ve ever witnessed.

He then added in the comments, “Very baller move. Everyone in the room was applauding afterwards.”

As of right now, the post has almost 70,000 likes and lots of comments. Many fans expressed envy that Joe was able to see Starr perform, with one person writing, “You’re living the dream!”

Someone remarked that it was a life-changing experience, saying they wished they were in his place. Another person simply declared him the best of all time.

Many viewers are hoping the mistake will be included in the blooper reel, or feel the editors should have left it in the final cut. One person pleaded, “Please let it be in the bloopers!,” while another insisted, “They really should have kept that moment in the episode.”

Someone else agreed, saying they really should have included the laser eyes! Another fan was even wondering if the writers considered adding that idea to the episode. It’s cool to see everyone thinking about what could have been!

Many fans also talked about moments from Season 5, saying they would have been terrified if they’d gone through what Starr did while getting into character.

One person admitted they would have reacted with fear, comparing themselves to someone named Deep. Another jokingly suggested sending those involved to “Freedom Camps,” while a third simply stated they would have been terrified.
