The Boys creator reveals one regret he has after Gen V Season 2 Episode 7

The seventh episode of Gen V’s second season, ‘Hell Week,’ is being hailed as one of the best episodes in a long time, largely due to a surprising reveal about Godolkin. However, despite all the positive feedback, the creator of The Boys, Eric Kripke, says there’s one thing he wishes he’d done differently.

So far in Gen V’s second season, the Guardians of Godolkin have reunited, and we’re gradually learning more about the new dean, Cipher (Hamish Linklater), and his plans. (We’ll have more details on that soon.)

As ‘The Boys’ approaches its Season 2 finale, actor Karl Urban (who plays Billy Butcher) has been discussing what’s next. He’s shared that Season 5 of ‘The Boys’ will pick up about six months later, and the future of ‘Gen V’ Season 3 depends on viewership of the current season.

He’s now sharing what he’d do differently if he could revisit the past, and it all comes down to the fans of Gen V being surprisingly perceptive. Be warned: spoilers follow!

The Boys creator reveals regret over Gen V Season 2 Episode 7 twist

Eric Kripke told Radio Times that, looking back, he’d have put more effort into concealing the hints that allowed fans to correctly predict the big reveal in Season 2, Episode 7.

Okay, so during ‘Hell Week’ it totally blew my mind to find out that God U dean Cipher wasn’t who we thought at all! Turns out, ‘Cipher’ is actually just a guy named Doug, and he’s been controlled the whole time by Dr. Thomas Godolkin (played by Ethan Slater). It’s crazy – Cipher isn’t a separate person, Doug’s body was just being used like a puppet!

Marie (Jaz Sinclair) only discovers the truth after she’s healed Godolkin, which unfortunately allows him to move forward with his dangerous plan. He intends to “cull the herd,” meaning he’ll eliminate superheroes whose abilities he considers weak or insignificant.

Despite the creators intending Cipher’s identity to be a shocking reveal, many fans correctly guessed it weeks in advance and discussed it online.

So, I’m gonna throw this way out there and predict these two are the same people.

Someone suggested that Cipher’s abilities might be similar to telepathy, like Professor X. They wondered if he’s causing everyone to *think* they’re seeing Linklater, when it’s actually Thomas Godolkin.

We didn’t actually see Godolkin die in the first episode, and we learned from Emma’s conversation with her Aunt Pam that Cipher’s last name is Gold. The similarity between the two last names seems intentional, suggesting a connection.

Kripke told Radio Times he was surprised at how quickly fans solved the mystery, admitting, “Honestly, I’m mostly just annoyed they figured it out so fast!”

After just a few episodes, some clever viewers online started noticing small hints we were leaving and figured out the whole story.

So, after we put a lot of work into this big twist, other sites started talking about it, and honestly, we really wanted to keep it a surprise! But it taught me a valuable lesson: gamers are seriously sharp. They figure things out, and they’re way smarter than you think!

If I could redo it, I’d definitely try to conceal the clues better. However, I still think it’s a fun episode, and viewers will appreciate the surprise ending.

We try to make things look effortless, almost like a magic trick you’d see at a carnival – a simple illusion. But someone figured out how we were doing it, and exposed our methods.

Slater shared that he doesn’t believe fan predictions ruin the surprise. He explained that the way Michele and the writers crafted the storyline makes *how* things unfold more important and exciting than simply *that* they happen, so guessing the twist isn’t really a spoiler.

Plus, we’ve got the release date for Gen V Season 2 Episode 8, a rundown of all the appearances by The Boys characters in Gen V, and our ranking of both The Boys and its spin-off series.
