Matt Reeves, who wrote and directed *The Batman*, recently shared news about the sequel while attending the Emmy Awards. He was there to support *The Penguin*, an HBO Max series connected to his Batman universe, which received an impressive 24 nominations and won nine awards. However, many were eager to hear about the follow-up to his 2022 film, *The Batman*.

In an interview with *The Hollywood Reporter*, Reeves stated that the developments for Robert Pattinson’s Batman and Bruce Wayne will be unique and unlike anything seen before in previous iterations.
The Batman 2 Production Update Eases Minds
For a while, news about *The Batman 2* wasn’t very positive. The movie, initially planned for release in October 2025, has been pushed back twice – first due to the writers’ strike in 2023, and then again in 2024 because the script wasn’t finished. The rumors about these delays, and even the possibility of the film being canceled, grew so strong that James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, had to publicly respond.

Just to clarify, *The Batman Part II* is still happening. I keep hearing rumors that it’s been canceled, but that’s not true. We just don’t have a finished script yet, and Matt Reeves is taking his time with it, as he often does, according to a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
Keanu Reeves recently shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the project has been a long process, delayed by both personal issues and a desire to perfect the script. He wanted to ensure they had the absolute best version possible before moving forward.
Matt Reeves revealed that Robert Pattinson has read the script for the upcoming *The Batman Part II* and is really enthusiastic about it.

He told Variety they’re planning to start filming around the end of April or the beginning of May.
Reeves Isn’t Sharing Any Clues
This update doesn’t reveal any specifics about the story of *The Batman 2*. However, director Matt Reeves assures fans that, similar to the first film, it will combine exciting action with a compelling mystery.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker explained that keeping plot details secret was especially crucial for this movie, given its focus on mystery and detective work, and building on the success of the first film. To ensure Pattinson didn’t leak any information, the script was delivered in a locked case requiring a code to open.
Matt Reeves says Robert Pattinson kept script for ‘THE BATMAN: PART 2’ after he finished reading it
We kept the script incredibly secure – we put it in a locked pouch with a code to open it. Robert Pattinson was in New York, and we take security very seriously. We have a lot of faith in Rob.

According to Reeves, Pattinson responded positively once he was able to access the script.
Reeves believed Pattinson would appreciate the film due to how it developed his character, and Pattinson’s positive reaction was very rewarding. He’s not the only one who enjoyed it, though.
Colin Farrell says he read ‘THE BATMAN: PART 2’ script and it’s “extraordinary.”
He notes his role in the film will be small.

I recently heard from Colin Farrell about his role as the Penguin in the upcoming Batman sequel. He told Deadline he doesn’t have a huge amount of screen time, just a small part, but he was really impressed with the script, calling it ‘extraordinary.’ Sounds promising, right?
Fans of *The Penguin* will be disappointed to learn that Cristin Milioti, who won an Emmy for her role as Sofia Falcone, won’t be in the upcoming movie. However, Reeves hasn’t completely ruled out her appearing in a possible third *Batman* film.
I got all my Batman questions answered by Matt Reeves! He discussed everything from Cristin Milioti’s potential return to the series and whether we’ll see more seasons of The Penguin.

He explained that Cristin wasn’t involved in this particular installment because the script was already well-developed by the time they started filming. However, he left the door open to the possibility of her appearing in future episodes, saying, ‘We’ll see.’
What This The Batman 2 Update Really Means
Currently, *The Batman 2* is expected to be released in theaters on October 1, 2027. While DC Studios hasn’t made an official announcement, it’s likely that Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, and Barry Keoghan will reprise their roles.

But the most important update is that the signal is clear: The Batman 2 is still getting made.
