‘The Accountant 2’ Trailer: Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal Are Back to Solve New Murder Mystery

The estranged brotherly duo of Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal is back for “The Accountant 2.”

As a movie enthusiast eagerly counting down the days to the global debut at this year’s South by Southwest Film & Television Festival on March 8, I’m thrilled to share that “The Accountant 2” has unveiled its official trailer! The sequel finds Christian Wolff (Affleck), our autistic accountant, back in the thick of it, this time tasked with untangling financial mysteries. In this fresh installment, Christian is approached by a tenacious treasury agent (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) to help solve a murder case. To crack the case wide open, the enigmatic and reserved Christian must rekindle relationships, starting with his estranged brother, Brax (Bernthal), following the events of the first film.

Initially, the first “The Accountant” movie grossed an impressive $155 million globally for Warner Bros, with a production cost of only $44 million. Nevertheless, despite the moderate financial success of the initial film, Vanity Fair indicated that “The Accountant 2” has been stuck in development for a lengthy eight years. In his own words, director Gavin O’Connor characterized this prolonged process as grueling, stating that it was like a flower on the verge of blooming, only to stop and start again repeatedly. He found this back-and-forth incredibly frustrating.

As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled about O’Connor taking the helm for a fresh script penned by Bill Dubuque, known for his work on “The Accountant,” “Ozark,” and “The Judge.” In an interview with Vanity Fair, O’Connor shared his vision for the sequel: he yearns to create a film that resonates emotionally, transcending the boundaries of mere action. Frankly, I find the idea of an action movie devoid of human connection and love utterly tedious and unengaging. Instead, I’m eager to delve into the depths of this story that promises to explore the intricate tapestry of human connections and love.

“The Accountant 2” releases in theaters April 25 from Amazon MGM. Watch the trailer below.
