As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say that this year has been an absolute delight for us gamers! The games released in 2024 have truly outdone themselves, and I’ve had the pleasure of diving into each one of them.
As another exciting year nears its end (a bit scary, I must admit!), it’s high time for us, fellow gamers, to cast our eyes over the standout games that graced our screens in 2024.
2024 has been quite a journey! We found ourselves embroiled in a conflict with the Terminids during Helldivers 2, only to lend a hand again to Cloud in his ongoing battle against Sephiroth. As the warm weather arrived, we took refuge in the Lands Between and fought Messmer and his troops. Now, as winter begins, we’ve been making our mark in Black Ops 6.
Essentially, we’ve been enjoying ourselves immensely through gaming, but it’s important to remember that leisure can’t occupy every moment (just as my wise father used to say). Duties like work are necessary. With that said, our team has compiled an exhaustive list of the top games expected in 2024 – a list we confidently claim as definitive.
Should you be curious about how this list of games was compiled, allow me to clarify. All games that were newly released in the year 2024 qualified for inclusion – this encompasses early-access titles and DLC (much like The Game Awards) – and we sought the opinions of every member of the TopMob gaming team, who proposed 60 games for potential selection. Subsequently, our senior team engaged in a heated debate (though it was actually through Slack chat) and after much deliberation, narrowed down the list to the 25 titles displayed below.
Note: We’ve put this list together to give you enough time to get some of these on your Christmas lists or take advantage of Black Friday bargains, but we know that a few highly anticipated games are released in December (we’re looking at you, Great Circle). If they are great, we’ll get back in the TopMob debating chamber and decide if they deserve to make it into our games of the year.
25. Solo Leveling: Arise
Platform Availability: Microsoft Windows, Android, and iOS devices
Overview: The game, titled “Solo Leveling: Arise”, is based on the popular webtoon and anime series. It transforms into a role-playing game with gacha elements, where players embark on Sung Jinwoo’s journey as he ascends from being the world’s weakest Hunter to becoming the strongest.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but be captivated by Arise – a game that beautifully pays tribute to my cherished manhwa and anime. It’s not just about playing; it’s about being immersed in a world masterfully crafted with compelling narratives, stunning visuals that stay true to the source material, and smooth gameplay that flows effortlessly.

24. Pokemon TCG Pocket
Platforms: iOS, Android
Initial release date: October 30, 2024
Genre: Card game
Multiplayer: Yes
Overview: An inviting, relaxed version of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Live, offering a similar thrill as unwrapping real booster packs to curate your own collection.
What appeals to us: Before its launch, many fans doubted the necessity of Pokemon TCG Pocket, but once they played the game, it became clear what this spin-off mobile game aimed to achieve.
As a devoted Pokémon enthusiast, I find Pocket to be an ideal complement to my competitive play, providing a more affordable and digital alternative compared to traditional TCG Live. For those of us who love the game but can’t or prefer not to spend large sums on physical cards, Pocket offers a cost-effective solution that doesn’t compromise on fun.

23. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
Game Platforms: Xbox and PC (Microsoft Windows)
The new installment of Hellblade, titled “Hellblade: New Story,” shifts the setting from 8th-century Orkney to 9th-century Iceland. In this continuation, Senua is on a mission to liberate her enslaved people.
Why we appreciate it: The original Hellblade game employed thoughtful gameplay mechanics to convey a deeply emotional story about mental illness. In this new installment, Senua’s psychosis continues to pose her most formidable challenge as she strives to ensure the survival of her people.
To make sure they portrayed psychosis realistically, developers Ninja Theory sought advice from psychologists at Cambridge University as well as individuals with similar experiences. This careful approach is evident in the sequel, resulting in a storyline that feels intense and unyielding, drawing players deeply into Senua’s journey. With robust combat mechanics and breathtaking graphics, it stands as a fitting follow-up to the original, which was highly acclaimed.

21. Granblue Fantasy: Relink

In a Nutshell: Granblue Fantasy: Relink is an action-packed Role Playing Game (RPG) that takes place in the breathtaking Skydoms, a realm where floating islands are linked by airships. You’ll embark on a voyage with your skyfaring crew to discover the fabled island of Estalucia.
One way to rephrase: The charm of Relink lies in its eccentric teammates who join you on your journey. 20. Age of Mythology: Retold
Game Platforms: Xbox and PC (Microsoft Windows)
Overview: Retold is a revamped version of the 2002 Real-Time Strategy game, Age of Mythology. It blends ancient mythological tales with strategic gameplay, enabling players to command historic civilizations such as the Greeks, Egyptians, Norse, and even the lesser-known Atlanteans – a civilization you might not have encountered in your history books.
The reason we enjoy it: Retold manages to keep the original game’s appeal while improving every other aspect. With its improved graphics and fine-tuned gameplay, this 20-year-old RTS classic plays as smoothly and engagingly as any modern game in the genre.
Enhancements like rechargeable Divine Abilities, an eagerly anticipated expansion of the Population Limit, and the introduction of Wonder Era provide additional complexity. Unique hurdles such as constructing Titan Gates or utilizing Mythical Units foster innovative and varied gameplay approaches, ensuring a thrilling yet recognizable experience for both seasoned players and newbies.

19. Dragon’s Dogma 2
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to share that the upcoming Action RPG will be available on three platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows. Mark your calendars for March 21, 2024, which is when this masterpiece will be unveiled. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to offer multiplayer functionality. But with its Action RPG genre, I’m confident that the single-player experience will be nothing short of extraordinary!
Overview: In Dragon’s Dogma 2, you step into the role of an Arisen, a significant figure who commands the Pawn Legion, a diverse army of warriors hailing from various dimensions. Your collective mission is to prevent a catastrophic inferno from consuming all existence.
What makes it appealing: Dragon’s Dogma 2 deviates from typical gaming trends, choosing to maintain its unique style instead of catering to players. Instead of quick-travel options, the game encourages strategic planning for journeys, camping, and survival considerations. Despite your role as a legendary hero, this game also invites you to appreciate the smaller details. While these unconventional mechanics might not appeal to everyone, those who embrace its idiosyncratic and sometimes challenging gameplay will find themselves captivated by it.

18. Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred
Platform Availability: PlayStation, Xbox, PC (Windows)
Overview: Following the events of Diablo 4, the Wanderer embarks on a mission aimed at preventing the malevolent entity, Mephisto – the Demon Lord of Hate, from re-emerging in our world.
Why we like it: Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred improves upon the base game in every way. Adding the new Spiritborn class and reintroducing classic elements from older Diablo games, like recruitable mercenaries and Runewords, this expansion sets the tone for another year of Diablo 4. While loot chasing has never felt so polished and addictive, Diablo 4 also expands the universe with a compelling new villain to take down and the threat of a demonic civil war – with all of Sanctuary caught in the middle.

17. Persona 3 Reload
As an ardent gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the much-anticipated RPG game is set to debut on three platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows on February 1, 2024. Unfortunately, this epic journey doesn’t seem to offer a multiplayer mode.
Overview: A complete redesign of Persona 3, where you assume the role of the protagonist, who becomes a member of the Specialized Extracurricular Activities Club (S.E.A.C) and endeavors to reveal the mysteries surrounding The Dark Hour.
What makes it appealing: Persona 3 Reload offers a captivating and enigmatic storyline, coupled with sleek visuals, and enhancements that meet the contemporary quality of Persona 5 and Royal. This makes it the superior choice for immersing oneself in the classic experience of this JRPG.
As a die-hard gamer immersed in the world of Persona, I can’t help but be captivated by the gripping narrative of The Dark Hour and S.E.E.S’ mission. The thrill of commanding my entire party during combat is a game-changing feature that I absolutely love, and the extra hangout sessions have brought me even closer to the main characters than ever before. In short, this remake is nothing short of fantastic, and every Persona fan should give it a try.

16. Palworld
Platform Availability: PlayStation, Xbox, PC (Microsoft Windows), Mac (macOS)
In essence: An exceptional survival game offering monster capturing, crafting, and a lot of thrilling combat (although not to be mistaken as Pokemon with firearms).
One reason we enjoy it: Palworld has been a subject of debate, with some finding its resemblance to Pokemon questionable. Nevertheless, its influence is undeniable. It reached an incredible 2.1 million simultaneous players on Steam and was arguably the hottest topic in the gaming world at its launch, sparking countless conversations around it.
This achievement was truly deserved, as Palworld provides an unprecedented gaming experience. By merging the finest elements from Ark, Pokemon, and Zelda, this expansive game offered one of the most comprehensive experiences of the year. The adventure doesn’t end there, as it continues to receive updates, and with the latest addition of the Sakurajima expansion, we can look forward to plenty more content in the future.

15. Dragon Age: Veilguard
Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, Windows Microsoft
Initial release date: 31 October 2024
Genre: Action RPG
Multiplayer: No
Main Concept: Veilguard is an extensive role-playing game where you construct a rebellion against two ancient elven deities who have been released.
Why we like it: Whether you’re a seasoned visitor to Thedas or jumping in for the first time, Dragon Age: The Veilguard takes the franchise to new heights. Fluid, glitzy combat can be as straightforward or as complex as you want it to be, with difficulty settings that can be changed on the fly, along with companion skills and runes.
Character creation in this new game has significantly improved compared to the less exciting days of Dragon Age: Inquisition, featuring some of the most alluring hair physics that could challenge Merida from Pixar’s Brave. This is just one aspect of the many impressive features available.
Instead of open-world environments like Inquisition’s, Veilguard seems to offer labyrinthine outdoor mazes that appear more like sections of a bigger world rather than entire regions to explore. However, the captivating characters, engaging dialogue, and ability to create a character tailored to your personal fantasy vision make Veilguard a game you won’t want to overlook.

14. Astro Bot
Platforms: PlayStation 5
Initial release date: 6 September 2024
Genre: Platformer
Multiplayer: No
Overview: A charming 3D platformer, serving as a follow-up to the cherished Astro’s Playroom, invites players to traverse stages inspired by PlayStation’s extensive past, with our robotic protagonist, Astro, leading the way.
One way to rephrase: In a sea of shooters, role-playing games, and intricate MMOs, it’s refreshing to launch a straightforward platformer, and there aren’t any better than Astro Bot. Expanding on everything the developer accomplished in the original Astro’s Playroom, this sequel offers a delightful escape into the rich, decades-long history that the PlayStation now showcases proudly.
Despite not being overly complicated compared to other platformers, there’s a satisfying thrill in conquering tough levels (it brings back memories of Splashing Sprints). The game is commendable, with the exception of the absence of Final Fantasy elements, and it stands proudly among giants like Super Mario Odyssey.

13. Space Marine 2
Game Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, PC (Windows)
Title Overview: Space Marine 2 is an intense, slash-and-destroy journey, where you and your squad, exceptional combatants, battle for the Imperium, annihilating anything that opposes you.
As a longtime gamer, I can’t contain my excitement for Space Marine 2. It’s been 13 years since the first one dropped, and the anticipation was through the roof. But let me tell you, this sequel doesn’t disappoint! It delivers hard-hitting, unrivaled hack-and-slash action that’s reminiscent of our tabletop games, brought to life in stunning detail. The storyline is engaging, and the graphics are so crisp, it feels like we’ve stepped right into the game world itself. Space Marine 2 is a testament to what great sequels should be!
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, the variety of classes, weapons, builds, and designs in Space Marine 2 feels incredibly diverse, perfectly fitting for a franchise like Warhammer. It’s not every day we come across a game that outshines other AAA titles inspired by Warhammer or tabletop RPGs, but Space Marine 2 truly stands out, leaving its competitors in the dust.

12. Silent Hill 2
Platforms: PlayStation and Windows by Microsoft
Topic Overview: A total reimagining of the 2001 survival horror masterpiece, where James Sunderland is once again haunted by the sorrow of losing his spouse.
Here’s one way to rephrase: Silent Hill 2, widely considered as one of the best horror games ever created, was long overdue for a remake that could bring it into the present day. Thankfully, the developers at Bloober Team have made thoughtful adjustments while preserving the essence of the original game.
In this updated version, the deep and persistent sorrow running through it feels even harder to handle, but the enhanced graphics certainly help. The improved combat system and superior third-person camera angle make gameplay a more enjoyable experience now. However, this doesn’t mean that the original Silent Hill 2 was flawed in any way – quite the contrary, the remake is often seen as one of the finest examples of modern remakes, skillfully incorporating advancements from the last twenty years to enhance the gaming experience.

11. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Platform Availability: PlayStation, Xbox, and PC (Windows)
In the sunlit beaches of Hawaii, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth follows our carefree protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga, on a journey to discover his biological mother. Yet, things get complicated when Ichiban and their motley team of misfits find out they’re not alone in pursuing Akane Kishida.
Why we like it: Yakuza 8 is without a doubt the biggest and boldest game yet from RGG Studio, taking players across both Yokohama and Honolulu. It marks the first time the series has traveled outside of Japan, effortlessly splitting its 50+ hour story across both locations.
Infinite Wealth offers a rich collection of adored characters, quirky mini-games galore, and a seemingly endless array of side missions – ensuring that both longtime fans and fresh players will find plenty to engage with. I found my time spent with Ichiban and his comrades truly enjoyable, particularly the dynamic between Kazuma Kiryu, the game’s original lead character. The game’s success has led to Goro Majima making a trip to the tropical island for Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which is set to launch at the beginning of next year.

10. Metaphor Re:Fantazio
Game Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, Personal Computers running Windows
The game in question is an expansive, medieval role-playing adventure set within a fantasy realm. It centers around a troubled royal family who find themselves in turmoil following the assassination of their king.
What we appreciate about it: Fantazio is a game rich in intriguing characters, distinctive locations, and stunning graphics. However, its true power lies in how it tackles complex issues such as racism, discrimination, and supremacy more broadly, while providing a subtle perspective on the workings of power structures and institutions that have striking parallels to reality.
In this game, the social simulation aspects seem more fitting than they did in the renowned Persona series. The characters are also more nuanced, as the developers choose to portray a morally complex group, rather than strictly good versus evil. This blend of fantasy and realism is executed masterfully, providing both an escape and poignant emotional scenes that truly resonate.

9. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero
Game Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and PC (Microsoft Windows)
The newest addition to the cherished Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi series is called Sparking Zero, which updates the classic arena fighter for today’s generation, featuring an all-time high number of characters from the franchise.
What made it appealing: The Budokai Tenkaichi series was a significant favorite among Dragon Ball enthusiasts during the early 2000s, as it came the closest any game has ever managed to make players feel like they were Super Saiyans.
Sparking Zero has taken the solid foundation of the old games and brought it into the modern day. With fantastic graphics, a giant fighter roster, and familiar combat that puts you right into the action, this is an absolute must-play for any Dragon Ball fan that’s made even better by unique What-If scenarios.

8. Destiny 2: The Final Shape
Platforms where the game can be played: PlayStation, Xbox, PC (Microsoft Windows)
Summary: The recent extension in Destiny 2 brings to a close the grand Light and Darkness narrative that commenced a decade ago, as players eliminate the Witness permanently.
Here’s one way to rephrase: It’s not often that a series manages to fulfill a decade-long narrative involving numerous campaigns, seasonal content, dungeons, and raids, but The Final Shape did just that. This expansive addition brought an end to an epic journey, giving Destiny enthusiasts the chance to rejoice over their shared experiences.
From start to finish, this expansion introduced franchise-defining plot twists that we never saw coming. It isn’t just the story either, with more content still being added through new Episodes, which innovate Destiny’s long-standing seasonal structure. This will be remembered fondly as the best Destiny 2 expansion of all time, and that’s something Bungie can always be proud of.

7. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Platform: The Nintendo Switch console
The story revolves around the following events: With Link getting kidnapped by an unidentified power and imprisoned in the realm known as the Still World, Princess Zelda embarks on a journey to restore peace in Hyrule, halt its impending doom, and rescue Link from the enigma of Null.
The reason for our liking: After nearly 40 years, Nintendo finally gave Zelda her own series, and we believe the delay was justified.
Instead of simply duplicating Link’s classic skills for Zelda, Echoes of Wisdom harmoniously combines unique gameplay mechanisms, striking a balance between the comfort of the known and the intrigue of the unfamiliar.
Transforming the open-ended construction elements from Breath of the Wild and its sequel into a side-scrolling Zelda game, while adding features to interact with various creatures in the rich ecosystem of Hyrule, is a brilliant idea that makes the player feel like they’re tackling puzzles and battles in unique, never-before-seen ways.

6. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Platforms: PlayStation 5
Initial release date: 29 February 2024
Genre: Action RPG
Multiplayer: No
In essence: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth isn’t a simple remake of the 1997 RPG; instead, it offers a reimagined, dynamic take. This action role-playing game involves thwarting the corrupt Shinra Corporation’s exploitation of Mako, the planet’s life essence, and dealing with the formidable Sephiroth, an ex-SOLDIER who was once part of your team.
Why we like it: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a massive game which boasts an impressive open world, spectacular combat mechanics, as well as a a compelling story that’ll appeal to long-time fans and newer players. Yet the game’s real charm lies in all the quirky side content – including ridiculous minigames and epic Queen’s Blood matches. 5. Stellar Blade
Platforms: PlayStation 5
Initial release date: April 26, 2024
Genre: Action-adventure
Multiplayer: No
What it’s all about: Stellar Blade is set in a post-apocalyptic world where Earth is infested with horrific creatures known as Naytiba, pushing humanity to the verge of annihilation. In this game, players step into the shoes of Eve, a lethal android whose mission is to eradicate the extraterrestrial danger.
If you learn every powerful combo and transformative abilities, you’ll outmaneuver the game’s fearsome predators with ease. Witnessing Eve deftly navigating the battlefield, barely escaping deadly attacks, only to vanquish her squishy opponent with a skillfully executed finisher is both exhilarating and stylish.
As a gamer, I can tell you that when you mix an outstanding original soundtrack by Keiichi Okabe from Nier, stunning semi-open world landscapes, and a vast selection of customizable outfits, you’re concocting a formula that rivals the greatest games in the genre. It’s a knockout combo for sure!

4. Helldivers 2
Platforms: PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Windows (available from February 8, 2024)
In summary: As the final defense line, you join the Helldivers in a battle for liberty and democracy, protecting Super Earth from ruthless Termanids, Automatons, and any other challenges the game developers might introduce.
Why we like it: Helldivers 2 may seem pretty simple on the surface – dive in, shoot bugs or robots, complete a small mission, and jump back out without dying too much – and it is, but that’s not what makes it so brilliant.
Helldivers 2 truly shines due to its exceptionally enjoyable gameplay. In our critique, we highlighted the thrilling mix of chaotic action, stunning landscapes, and gruesome enemy obliteration that resulted in a captivating adventure that countless players found irresistible, and we continue to affirm this sentiment.
