Thai police have arrested two gamers – Tokyogurl, a former competitor in the Southeast Asian Games, and Cheerio, a semi-professional player – following a cheating scandal at the recent 33rd SEA Games in Bangkok. Reports indicate both have confessed to their involvement.
Police have filed computer crime charges against Naphat Warasin, 29, who goes by the online name Tokyogurl, and Chaiyo, 23, known as Cheerio, in connection with incidents during the Arena of Valor competition on December 16, 2025.
Authorities claim the two individuals worked together to share login information for secure computer systems and illegally viewed confidential data during the tournament. According to Commander Phatthanasak Bupphasuwan, the problem began when Naphat used prohibited software and a substitute player during a match at the SEA Games.
How Tokyogurlz and Cheerio cheated
During a match between Thailand and Vietnam, investigators noticed some unusual activity in the game. They saw strange login attempts beforehand, and records suggest the players were communicating with each other during the game. After looking into it, tournament officials determined the players were using a scheme where someone else was remotely controlling their game, leading to the expulsion of one player and the disqualification of the entire Thai women’s team.

Police investigating the case found evidence on the men’s phones that suggested they were planning something together. Chaiyo confessed to controlling the operation remotely, using software on Naphat’s phone to participate from a distance.
A video of the arrest was shared online.
The lawsuit was officially submitted to the Pathumwan Kwaeng Court on February 6th, and a decision is expected on March 17th.
Thailand’s Siamsport reports that violations of the Computer Crime Act could result in up to two years in prison, a fine of around $1200 USD (40,000 baht), or both penalties combined.
The controversy began during the SEA Games when Thailand’s Arena of Valor women’s team unexpectedly pulled out of competition while still having a chance to win a medal. Initially, player Tokyogurl stated she had become sick during a match, denying any issues. However, weeks later, Cheerio admitted he had secretly played in her place, taking full responsibility and apologizing to both fans and event organizers.
According to Santi Lohtong, president of the Thailand Esports Federation, the incident significantly harmed the federation, the national team, and Thailand’s image. As a result, both players are banned from competing for life.
