Jane Schoenbrun, known for directing the films I Saw the TV Glow and We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, has a new, unsettling and visually striking movie coming out. Starring Emmy-winning actresses Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Sex Education, Scoop), Teenage Sex and Death in Camp Miasma will be in US theaters on August 7, 2026, but you can watch its first hauntingly beautiful trailer now.
The new film, written and directed by Schoenbrun and produced by Plan B, continues their exploration of trans identity and queer horror with their distinctive, striking style. MUBI financed the project, which stars Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kevin McDonald, Quintessa Swindell, and Jack Haven. The story centers on a young director tasked with reviving a struggling slasher franchise, “Camp Miasma.” When she seeks out the original film’s reclusive star, they both become entangled in a terrifying and unsettling world of passion, dread, and madness.
Meta Horror is Coming Back

Mubi
Okay, so after seeing the new Anaconda last year and with the Faces of Death reboot coming out next month, I’ve noticed this cool trend in horror. There’s this movie called Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, and it’s playing with the idea of movies within the movie. It’s really messing with your head, making you question what’s actually happening in the story versus what’s just part of a movie inside that universe. It’s that blurring of reality that’s genuinely creepy, you know?
The new trailer for Camp Miasma immediately grabs your attention with its visually stunning style and carefully chosen details. It effectively sets up the story without giving away too much. The trailer is cleverly designed to make you question what’s real, blending beautiful, almost staged scenes with a disturbing artificiality that leaves you wondering if anything you see is actually happening.

Following the critical success of I Saw The TV Glow, which earned nominations for six Independent Spirit Awards and three Gotham Awards, director and writer Jane Schoenbrun is highly anticipated for her next project, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. She’s also expanding into novels, with Public Access Afterworld scheduled for release in 2026. Adding to this impressive workload, Schoenbrun will write, direct, and executive produce a TV adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novel Black Hole for Netflix, in partnership with Plan B and New Regency.
