Teen who disappeared in 1994 found alive after 32 years with new identity

Christina Marie Plante disappeared on May 15, 1994, when she was 13 years old. Her family last saw her at their home in Star Valley, Arizona, as she was going outside to care for her horse.

She was never found. The Gila County Sheriff’s Office reported that they searched extensively for her, conducting thorough ground searches, interviewing people, and following up on all leads.

Authorities listed her as missing and believed she might be in danger, with concerns about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. The last time anyone saw her, she was wearing a white t-shirt, shorts, and black sneakers, according to a missing person flyer.

Even with support from volunteers and local law enforcement, Plante remained missing. Her details were added to national databases for missing children, and posters were distributed across the country.

The Plante family feared they’d lost their daughter forever, but the Gila County Sheriff’s Office created a special Cold Case Unit to investigate unsolved mysteries like hers.

I’m so relieved to share that after 32 years of wondering, we finally know what happened to Plante! Thankfully, someone’s hard work paid off, and it’s been confirmed she’s alive as of April 2026. It’s just amazing news!

Christina Marie Plante left home with help from relatives

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on April 1st that Christina Marie Plante is safe and has been positively identified. This is not an April Fool’s Day prank – she is alive and well.

This case highlights how reviewing old cases and using new technology can finally provide answers for families and communities who have been waiting a long time.

The Sheriff’s Office thanks everyone who helped keep this case going over the years, including the investigators, analysts, our partner agencies, and people in the community.

Since she was found, more information has come out about Clara Plante’s disappearance. According to Captain Jamie Garrett of the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, who spoke on NewsNation’s Jesse Weber Live, Plante left home willingly and received help from family members to do so.

According to Garrett, she left because she was unhappy with her living situation and the people she was living with. He mentioned he had a chance to talk to her on the phone.

She feels like that past is a lifetime away. She’s moved on, built a family, and rarely gives it another thought.
