Seth MacFarlane’s popular and often outrageous movie series, Ted, has now become a hit TV show on Peacock. The series premiered in 2024, and its second season, which launched on March 5, 2026, is already proving to be very popular with viewers.
According to FlixPatrol, Ted is currently the most popular TV show on Peacock in the U.S. It’s also a top 10 hit on HBO Max, where it’s available to watch in many countries. Plus, Ted is ranking among the top 10 shows on the Apple TV store in both the United States and Canada.
Ted Proved Film Series Can Turn into Successful TV Shows
The movie Ted started as a film featuring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. Seth MacFarlane created and voiced the main character, Ted, using both his voice and motion capture performance. The story begins when an 8-year-old boy named John Bennett wishes upon a star, bringing Ted to life. Years later, John (played by Mark Wahlberg) is grown up, but Ted is still his roommate.
The 2012 movie Ted launched a successful franchise. Though many doubted the concept – an adult having a close friendship with a foul-mouthed teddy bear – the film quickly became popular. Ted earned $549.4 million despite costing only $50–65 million to make, making it a major financial success that year.
The TV series Ted, which premiered on Peacock in 2024, tells the story before the events of the original movies. While the films take place after Ted’s time as a famous teddy bear, the show is set in 1993 and 1994. It follows Ted as he’s unexpectedly forced to go to high school alongside a teenage John Bennett, portrayed by Max Burkholder.
The Ted TV Series Is the Best-Rated Entry in the Ted Franchise
As a big fan of the Ted universe, I always check the ratings. The original Ted movie from 2012 has a pretty solid 68% score from critics, and audiences seem to enjoy it even more with a 73%. Ted 2, though, didn’t quite hit the same mark, landing at 45% from critics and 50% from viewers. Interestingly, the Ted TV series is actually the best-rated installment so far! It’s currently sitting at 74% from critics, but audiences really love it, giving it an impressive 89%.
The films Ted and Ted 2 have IMDb ratings of 6.9 and 6.3, respectively. The Ted TV series, however, has a higher rating of 7.9. When the TV series was announced, many people were unsure if it would be successful, which was a reasonable concern. Expanding a franchise can often be risky, but the Ted TV series has shown that it can be done well.
All episodes of the new season are released at once, and early reviews suggest it’s as good as – or even better than – the first season. The finale, “Fraudcast News,” currently has a 9.2 rating on IMDb, making it the highest-rated episode of the series and solidifying its position as a leading raunchy comedy.
Following the popularity of the Ted movies and the Ted prequel series on Peacock, an animated Ted show is in development. This new series will continue the story after the events of Ted and Ted 2, and will feature both the original cast members and some new faces, building on the franchise’s success.
Ted, Seasons 1 and 2, are available for streaming on Peacock in the United States.
