The first trailer for season 2 of Ted is here, and it promises more of the show’s signature humor. Created by Emmy winner Seth MacFarlane, and led by showrunners Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, the Peacock series is a prequel to the popular movies. It follows the adventures of Ted, a talking teddy bear brought to life by a wish, and his best friend John Bennett as they navigate the ups and downs of high school, family life, and John’s cousin Blaire, who’s in college.
Season one of Ted, starring Max Burkholder, Alanna Ubach, Scott Grimes, and Giorgia Whigham, was a success for creator Seth MacFarlane and streaming service Peacock, receiving the best reviews of any show in the Ted franchise. Although specific viewership numbers haven’t been released, the show was renewed for a second season and an animated spin-off is also being developed.
Peacock has just released the official trailer for season 2 of Ted. The trailer shows Ted and John starting their senior year of high school and getting into plenty of mischief, like accidentally calling a phone sex line from the school phone. It also features a Dungeons & Dragons game with a special appearance by Brennan Lee Mulligan, who acts as the game master. You can watch the trailer below!
The trailer for Ted season 2 revealed that Keegan-Michael Key will make a guest appearance. While an earlier image hinted at his role, it didn’t show his face. Key is well-known as a game master, having hosted Dimension 20 and Critical Role. This role, however, will be his largest acting part yet, following smaller appearances in Adam Ruins Everything and Hot Date.
The season 2 trailer for Ted suggests Blaire will face some emotional challenges. The first season ended with her family accepting her as sexually fluid and her starting a relationship with Sarah. However, Marissa Shankar’s character isn’t shown in the new trailer. We see Blaire and Ted getting drunk and accidentally kissing, which could be because Blaire is heartbroken over a breakup with Sarah. It’s a funny, awkward moment, but hints at deeper emotional struggles for her.
As a big fan, I’m really curious to see if season 2 of Ted does well enough to keep the animated series going, and if it sets things up nicely for a possible season 3. They’re already moving quickly through the story – John and Ted are dealing with senior year – which is great because it avoids the typical ‘family under one roof’ sitcom formula, especially if they both head off to college. Considering there are almost two decades of stories they can pull from, between the show and the movies, I’m hoping season 3 might even include some fun cameos from Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg. That would be awesome!
Ted season 2 begins streaming on Peacock on March 5.
