It appeared that the Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso” concluded with its third season, but new information indicates that a fourth season could be in development rather unexpectedly… and there’s even speculation about when production may commence.
In 2020, Ted Lasso provided a delightful respite when it premiered on Apple TV+. The global audience found solace in learning to “believe,” making it the streaming platform’s most triumphant series, earning widespread praise and taking home 11 Emmy awards throughout its tenure.
In the Apple TV+ series, the main character, an American coach named Ted, journeys to the UK to take charge of AFC Richmond, a soccer club previously owned by his ex-wife’s former partner. Initially, his ex-wife was vengeful in her management, but as Ted charmed everyone with his optimistic and upbeat demeanor, she began to change her mind. Meanwhile, Ted grapples with his personal struggles throughout the storyline.
The Season 3 finale seemed to indicate that Ted and his team had concluded their time at AFC Richmond, but rumors persist that a fourth season of Ted Lasso is on the horizon, with key characters likely to return. A January 2025 social media post by the show’s lead actor, Nick Mohammad, has sparked fresh discussions about when filming might commence.
Will there be a Ted Lasso Season 4?
Although an official confirmation for Season 4 hasn’t been made yet, rumors are swirling due to a 2025 announcement, suggesting that an announcement might be imminent. This speculation stems from previous reports indicating that Warner Bros. Television secured cast options and established a writers’ room to potentially kickstart the production.
Back in August 2024, I got some exciting news as a gamer – it looks like Ted Lasso might be back for Season 4! According to Deadline, the creators are already gathering their team, aiming to secure another season. Fingers crossed, they plan to start filming early in 2025. But for now, we’ll just have to wait and see!
A recent social media update from actor Nick Mohammad has sparked fresh discussions about the potential early return of the series, as he mentioned in a January 16th post that some dates on his Show Pony comedy tour were moved due to unavoidable filming commitments.
He went on to clarify that he “can’t reveal the details of the project yet, but an announcement is coming soon.” In the meantime, he kindly asked people not to make assumptions about what it could be. To emphasize his point, he displayed the well-known hand-painted BELIEVE sign from the series.
Mr. Swallow has some exciting news about his forthcoming tour – it’s called ‘Show Pony.’ Mark your calendars! #tedlasso 🎟️

The proposed dates for rescheduling come from his initially scheduled tour stops at Hackney Empire (April 30 or May 1, 2025) and Ipswitch (May 11, 2025). This timeframe offers a potential opportunity for filming to occur.
Initially, it was thought that Season 3 would be the conclusion of the main series, as suggested by the cast during the show. In an interview with a publication in 2023, Jason Sudeikis stated: “This is where we wanted to end this story, the one we hoped to tell, the one we loved to tell.
The show’s X account hinted at this being its last season, saying: “A few years ago, I boarded a plane with Coach Beard bound for a small town in London. Tonight marks our final game. It reminds me of the films of David Lynch. I can’t explain what’s happening, but I definitely don’t want it to conclude.
Yet, he noted: “I believe we’ve prepared a platform for many individuals to continue these narratives. To be honest, I see your compliment as praise for our collective efforts in creating this series.
It’s quite thoughtful of them to ponder this idea since you can’t always predict the outcomes of actions. It’s delightful that they’re interested in exploring new paths, even if it’s not exactly what was initially planned.
Who’d be in it?
It hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but according to Deadline, the options for three significant cast members – Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Walton, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, and Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins – have been renewed for Ted Lasso Season 4.
Based on Deadline’s report, there is a strong possibility that these three actors could reprise their roles if Apple TV+ decides to renew the series for another season. However, Apple TV+ has yet to officially confirm this information.
Across the ocean, actors under SAG-AFTRA agreements like Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Keeley Jones (from Ted Lasso, Coach Beard, and Keeley Jones respectively) would require fresh contracts.
Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Nick Mohammad wasn’t part of Deadline’s early reports, yet his declaration hints at his possible role in the show’s upcoming seasons.
If Season 4 really goes into production, there’s a good chance the main cast will return. That includes actors like Toheeb Jimoh and others.
Season 4 plot speculation
Although specifics about the storyline are yet to be revealed, it’s likely that Ted Lasso Season 4 will focus on Richmond’s participation in the Champions League, all the while Ted endeavors to strengthen his relationship with Michelle in the United States.
At the moment, it seems quite probable that Ted will remain in the United States. His longing for his son during Season 3 is palpable, making an immediate return to the UK unlikely.
If the final episode left room for more storylines, possibly even a new season or offshoot, here’s what we might expect: Richmond will establish a women’s team, with Roy stepping into the role as the team’s manager, and Nate returning to the club.
Brendan Hunt shared with Sky News, “We’ve considered it as a trilogy, and we’re approaching its conclusion now. Consequently, we handled it as the culmination of this tale. However, the audience can be quite elusive when it comes to satisfaction.
I believe there are around 20 potential spin-offs we could create, but it’s uncertain if we’ll actually produce any of them. It might happen or not. If we do make them, I can only hope they will be animated musicals.
Mohammed, who portrays Nate, expressed some apprehension about the concept of a spinoff. With Ted Lasso being such a successful show and receiving immense appreciation, he’s concerned that there might be pressure to maintain the same level of success. After all, spinoffs can sometimes miss the mark, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
