Taylor Swift had a huge weekend, topping both the music and movie charts. Her twelfth studio album, *The Life of a Showgirl*, was a hit, and the concert film, *Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl*, also did very well in theaters. Despite her busy schedule, she even found time to watch some other films and shared an unexpected review.
While on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon*, Taylor Swift shared that she recently watched a Leonardo DiCaprio movie. She then surprised everyone with a positive review, complimenting not only DiCaprio, but the entire cast and director Paul Thomas Anderson, even jokingly suggesting everyone deserved an Oscar.
The artist began speaking around the 7:24 mark, exclaiming, “One Battle After Another!” and questioning how the Academy Awards would handle potential wins for both Chase Infiniti and Teyana Taylor, suggesting they might have to share the award. She said, “We will see.”
She thought Benicio del Toro and Leonardo DiCaprio were really funny, saying DiCaprio was particularly hilarious. She also mentioned the movie’s theme song, explaining that it evokes different emotions each time you hear it.
Taylor Swift expressed her admiration for filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, saying it’s amazing to witness his talent. She noted he writes and directs his own films and operates on a different level of artistry. She then mentioned that the last movie she saw was one of his.
Taylor Swift has a few connections to Leonardo DiCaprio. She referenced him in her song “The Man” from her album *Lover*. More recently, DiCaprio and Ben Affleck appeared on a podcast hosted by her fiancé, Travis Kelce, called *New Heights*, to talk about their new movie, *One Battle After Another*. While on the podcast, DiCaprio shared that his previous agent suggested he use a stage name because his birth name sounded “too ethnic.”
Dwayne Johnson also had a significant weekend. While Taylor Swift’s concert film release party earned $34 million domestically, Johnson’s new sports drama, *The Smashing Machine*, opened with $5.9 million.
One Battle After Another Had a Stunning Reception
Okay, so this movie started out with incredible reviews – 98% from critics! It’s settled a little now at 95% from critics and 85% from regular moviegoers, which is still amazing. Plus, it’s officially “Certified Fresh” and they’re calling it “Verified Hot” – basically, everyone agrees it’s a must-see!
Beyond praising Swift, director Steven Spielberg was highly impressed with *One Battle After Another*. At an early viewing, he exclaimed, “This movie is insane!” He noted that the first hour contained more action than all of his other films combined, calling it “incredible” and a “bizarre yet relevant concoction.” Spielberg felt the film’s themes were even *more* timely now than when it was initially created and produced.
The movie *One Battle After Another* is doing okay at the box office. It had a very strong opening weekend, actually breaking the director’s previous record. However, because it cost between $130 and $175 million to make, it needs to earn significantly more money to become profitable.
One Battle After Another is playing in theaters.
