Taylor Swift celebrated her birthday this week, but her fans received a special treat: the premiere of her new documentary, The End of an Era, available on Disney+. While promoting the documentary and a concert film of her final tour show, she appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show. During a touching conversation, it appeared Swift hadn’t fully realized this also marks the end of Colbert’s time hosting the show.
Okay, as a huge Taylor Swift fan, I was SO excited to see her on Stephen Colbert’s show! It was clear they had a great rapport – especially knowing Stephen’s been a Swiftie for ages. It was a little bittersweet though, because Taylor mentioned some people just want her to disappear, which honestly felt a little too real. Stephen didn’t say it, but I got the feeling he could really relate to that! The best part? He asked her to pick her top five Taylor songs! She started with “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” and “Mirrorball,” but then jokingly asked for a minute to think it through, saying…
I might be able to revise this later if I have time to review it and create a definitive top five list.
It appears Taylor Swift wasn’t aware that The Late Show will be ending after its current season. Stephen Colbert playfully pointed this out to her, referencing his show’s cancellation and other changes happening at CBS.
You’ve got all the time you need between now and May.
I would have been shocked to hear that Stephen Colbert’s late-night show was ending in just five months, but Taylor Swift reacted calmly, even laughing. She seemed confident he’d find another great opportunity, basically saying that his departure didn’t mean he’d be out of work for long. She then said:
You’re going to become a podcast host, a social media influencer, and create content for TikTok.
That was a really impressive save, actually – even more so than when Emma Stone, a friend of Taylor Swift’s, awkwardly realized there wouldn’t be a follow-up question during her appearance on The Late Show back in October.
Stephen Colbert is always polite when guests unintentionally bring up the fact that his show is ending, but he’s been open about how tough it is for him. He’s described it like seeing someone approaching in the dim light – he doesn’t know if they represent something good or something bad, like whether they’re holding an ice cream cone or a knife.
Despite the show’s upcoming finale, The Late Show is still easily beating its late-night rivals, and continues to attract top celebrity guests without any difficulty.

Disney+ subscriptions start at $11.99 a month with ads. You can watch the concert film of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, including the extended version The End of an Era, and the final concert. See the deal here.
You can still watch Stephen Colbert on CBS weeknights at 11:35 p.m. Eastern Time until May (with episodes available to stream the next day on Paramount+). Plus, the first two parts of Taylor Swift’s documentary, The End of an Era, are now streaming on Disney+, along with her concert film, The Eras Tour: The Final Show.
