Taylor Sheridan’s thrilling series, Lioness, is returning after a two-year hiatus, and the cast is sharing exciting news about its comeback.

Taylor Sheridan created and runs the spy thriller Special Ops: Lioness, writing all of its episodes to date. The show debuted on Paramount+ in July 2023, with a second season following in October 2024. It’s been renewed for a third season, which is expected in August 2025 – meaning fans have been waiting almost two years for new episodes.

After seven months of production following its renewal, filming for season 3 of Lioness is now complete, suggesting it will likely debut in late 2026. What To Know About Lioness

The show centers on Joe McNamara (Zoe Saldaña), who leads a special CIA team called the Lioness program. This program trains women to work undercover and combat terrorism.

The cast of Special Ops: Lioness features Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, LaMonica Garrett, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Stephanie Nur, Hannah Love Lanier, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Thad Luckinbill, Michael Kelly, and Genesis Rodriguez.

The first season of Lioness received a mixed response from critics, earning a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While many praised Zoe Saldaña’s performance, they felt the show’s depiction of special operations wasn’t particularly new or believable. The second season was much better received, with a 90% critic score, and also scored well with audiences at 76% and 72% respectively.

I’m so excited for the new season of Lioness! Everything I’ve heard suggests season 3 is going to be the best one yet. James Jordan actually told ScreenRant they really went all out and made the scope of the show even bigger, and Jill Wagner called it ‘epic’! Plus, they’ve added Elizaveta Neretin and Ian Bohen to the cast, which just makes me even more eager to watch!

Season 2 set up the main storyline for Lioness season 3. A new danger emerges, testing Joe as a leader and creating more conflict with the CIA – issues that will likely continue in the next season. As Joe focuses on new missions, she drifts further from her original goals for the Lioness program. If her newest recruit struggles, she might even decide to leave the program altogether.
