The world created by Taylor Sheridan continues to be incredibly popular, extending far beyond just the television shows themselves. With more shows returning on Paramount+, the studio is still committed to expanding this successful universe.
According to Deadline, Zoe Saldaña’s Lioness has been officially renewed for a third season. There was talk in mid-August that this might happen, and now it’s confirmed. Both Saldaña and Nicole Kidman will be back for Season 3.
I was really hoping we’d get another season back in August! Everyone thought it was a done deal, especially since Nicole Kidman had a deal for three seasons. But it turned out her coming back wasn’t completely certain – she still needed to sign a contract. Deadline reported that this was actually what was holding things up – it was a contributing factor to the delay, they said. I was keeping my fingers crossed, but it definitely added some uncertainty!
Lioness Season 1 first aired on July 23, 2023, and Season 2 followed on October 27, 2024, just over a year later. There won’t be a new season in 2025, but fans are happy to hear that Joe McNamara and Kaitlyn Meade will be back. The show has been renewed for Season 3 after a 10-month wait since Season 2 finished airing on December 8, 2024. Saldaña and Kidman are also executive producers, along with creator Taylor Sheridan, Jill Wagner, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, and Geyer Kosinski.
Reports about upcoming renewals came shortly after Paramount Television announced a new production facility in Fort Worth, Texas’ AllianceTexas. This facility will be a collaboration between Paramount Television, SGS Studios-the company owned by Sheridan and led by 101 Studios CEO David Glasser-and Hillwood, a Perot Company.
This espionage thriller centers around Joe, a seasoned CIA case officer, as she juggles her work fighting terrorism with her personal life. Season 2 added layers of complexity when Joe, Kaitlyn, and Byron brought on a new operative to investigate a hidden danger, while also forcing Joe to deal with the difficult personal costs of leading the Lioness program. Currently, there is no overview available for Season 3.
In addition to Saldaña and Kidman, Lioness features Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, Genesis Rodriguez, and Morgan Freeman. The series has been well-received, with critics and viewers largely agreeing on its quality – Rotten Tomatoes reports an approval rating of 73% from critics and 74% from audiences.
