After being unexpectedly canceled, Taylor Sheridan’s show, Mayor of Kingstown, is adding a new actor for its final episodes.
The critically acclaimed show Mayor of Kingstown, created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, will conclude with its fifth season on Paramount+. While the show received a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes during its fourth season, the final season will be shorter – consisting of eight episodes – due to the show’s significant production costs. Jeremy Renner will reprise his role, along with most of the original cast.
Just a week after announcing the start of filming for its next season, Paramount+ has released the first images from the final season of Mayor of Kingstown. The photos feature Jeremy Renner on set at a hockey rink, appearing cheerful between takes.
David Morse, known for his work in Stephen King adaptations, is also joining the cast. He’ll play Russell Hardy, an experienced FBI agent sent to Kingstown to challenge the McLusky family’s long-held control of the town. See some on-set photos below.

Michael Morse is a prolific character actor with a long career in both film and television. He’s appeared in popular movies like 12 Monkeys with Bruce Willis and Michael Bay’s The Rock, and earned an Emmy nomination for his roles in House and John Adams. More recently, he was in the Prime Video series We Were Liars. He’s also well-known for being in several adaptations of Stephen King’s work, including The Green Mile, Hearts in Atlantis, and The Langoliers.
I’m so excited about season 5! Now that Jude Morse has been cast, we’re finally getting some real hints about the plot. Apparently, Morse’s character, Agent Hardy, will be hunting down Richard Brake’s Callahan, who everyone still thinks is on the run. This suggests that Mike, Kyle, and Ian – Renner, Taylor Handley, and Dillon’s characters – have managed to keep their revenge for Tracy’s murder a secret, at least for a while, after what happened in the season 4 finale of Mayor of Kingstown.
I’ve been thinking about Agent Hardy in season 5 of Mayor of Kingstown, and it’s fascinating. They say he’s someone who could uncover everything about Mike’s past – all his secrets. While that just shows he’s a good investigator, it also makes me wonder if the FBI has been watching the McLusky family and what’s been going on in Kingstown for a while now. It feels like they might finally be ready to disrupt the uneasy peace between the gangs, the police, and the prison itself. It’s a really intriguing setup!
Considering previous seasons usually took about four months to film, the fifth season of Mayor of Kingstown is expected to finish production around late June or early July due to having fewer episodes. This could mean the final season might start airing before the year ends. However, Taylor Sheridan is currently working on several other projects – including post-production for The Madison season 2, the Call of Duty movie, and the Tulsa King spinoff starring Samuel L. Jackson – so he and Paramount might decide to take more time with the final season to ensure it’s the highest quality possible.
