Taylor Sheridan’s latest series on Paramount+, The Madison, is quite different from his popular show, Yellowstone. While Yellowstone starred Kevin Costner as John Dutton and recently concluded after five seasons, The Madison was initially conceived as a continuation of the Yellowstone story, originally known as 2024.
When The Madison premiered in March, it was promoted as a self-contained series focusing on the Clyburn family and their leader, Stacy Clyburn, played by Michelle Pfeiffer. The show centers on the family’s move to Montana’s Madison River Valley and tells a touching story about dealing with grief and loss. While similar in theme to Yellowstone, The Madison offers a different perspective.
The Madison Is The Opposite Of John Dutton’s Yellowstone Story
Unlike its predecessor, which focuses on big conflicts and power struggles, The Madison is a deeply emotional story about loss and how people connect. While Yellowstone uses dramatic action and rivalry to move the plot forward, The Madison takes a more intimate approach, exploring one family’s journey through grief.
While The Madison isn’t as fast-paced as Yellowstone, its more personal story needs time to unfold and connect with viewers emotionally. However, The Madison is shorter and can be watched more quickly than Yellowstone, which has around 10 episodes per season. The Madison is a limited series with only six episodes.
Though The Madison features a large ensemble cast, the central story revolves around just two characters. Kurt Russell, known for his role in Tombstone, plays Stacy’s husband, Preston Clyburn, and Matthew Fox, famous from Lost, portrays Preston’s brother, Paul. The rest of Stacy’s family is played by many new faces in Taylor Sheridan’s television shows.
This series is perfect for a weekend binge – it’s around six hours long, making it easy to spread out over a couple of days. The Madison tells the story of the Clyburn family by contrasting their life in Manhattan with their new life in Montana, helping you understand their journey as they move between these two very different worlds.
Will There Be The Madison Season 2?
Stacy makes a significant choice that connects her past and future, but the story doesn’t end there. Paramount+ has renewed The Madison for a second season, and with many of the original cast returning, there’s plenty more to explore from the show’s first season.
Filming is scheduled to wrap up in 2025. Production was rearranged to work around Russell’s other commitments, meaning the second season of the show is already in progress. Although there’s no confirmed release date yet, most anticipate it will premiere in late 2026 or early 2027.
Fans of the show can likely look forward to a second season, and there’s even a possibility of a third. Although Paramount+ hasn’t officially announced anything, both an executive producer and the series’ director, Christina Voros, and Patrick J. Adams (known from Suits), who plays Russell McIntosh, have publicly expressed their desire for The Madison to continue with a Season 3.
The series’ future looks bright, but a couple of factors could cause problems. The biggest concern is Taylor Sheridan’s deal with NBCUniversal. His current contract with Paramount+ ends in 2028, and his move to NBCUniversal could jeopardize the continuation of many of the shows he currently creates.
