Owlcat Games and Another Angle Games revealed a new trailer for their tactical RPG, Shadow of the Road, during today’s New Game+ Showcase 2026. They also announced the game will launch on PC (Steam) sometime in 2026.
The game has already been featured in several trailers, including previews at the Galaxies Showcase in October 2025 and at the OTK Games Expo in May 2025.

Owlcat Games and Another Angle Games just released a new trailer for their upcoming RPG, Shadow of the Road. Shown at the New Game+ Showcase, the trailer announced the game will come out in 2026. Set in a unique, steampunk-inspired version of 19th century Japan, the turn-based tactical RPG features advanced technology intended to improve life, but questions arise about the true cost of this progress.
Shadow of the Road takes place in feudal Japan, a time of conflict between the ruling Tokugawa Shogunate and those loyal to Emperor Mutsuhito. The game blends traditional Japanese culture with fantastical mythology and steampunk technology, creating a unique and immersive world. Players lead a team of heroes whose choices impact the story and must learn to use each character’s skills to change the course of the war.
Key features of Shadow of the Road
Embark on an epic adventure with Tokugawa’s master spy! He enlists the help of skilled, wandering samurai, Satoru and Akira, to safeguard a young boy with incredible, but dangerous, abilities. Along the way, they meet others, each with their own past and reasons for fighting. Together, this group faces increasingly difficult obstacles as they seek to restore their reputations and potentially turn the tide of the war.
Your decisions matter! Every choice you make influences the characters’ journeys and changes who they are. You’ll determine whether they build new relationships, end old ones, or repair broken family connections.
Become a master strategist and lead a skilled team of diverse characters. Each member has their own unique story, motivations, and fears, allowing you to guide them on individual journeys.
