Mount Pearl city officials warned drivers to expect delays near the new fast food restaurant. Long lines are causing traffic to build up on Commonwealth Avenue, especially around the intersection with Smallwood Drive.
Traffic backed up because a new Taco Bell opened its doors, marking the first location in Newfoundland and Labrador in several years. Hundreds of excited customers visited over the weekend, leading city officials to advise drivers to expect delays.
The city reported that long lines at the drive-thru on opening day stretched onto nearby streets due to high demand.

The City of Mount Pearl shared a message on social media asking drivers to stay patient as traffic slowed down near a popular restaurant. They lightheartedly compared the long lineup to Santa’s journey on Christmas Eve.
Kiran Heladiya, the owner of the new restaurant, said they served almost 700 customers on their very first day.
Okay, so I was checking out the new Taco Bell opening today, and honestly, the line was insane! I heard about all the hype and figured I’d finally give it a try since I’ve never actually been before. But yeah, I ended up waiting over an hour just to order. It was a bit much, but I was already there, so I stuck it out!
I was so hyped when I heard Taco Bell was finally opening up here! I actually went on opening day – I was one of the first customers. I immediately ordered a Crunchwrap Supreme and those amazing cinnamon twists, I had been craving them for ages!
Many customers first discovered the brand while traveling outside of Newfoundland and Labrador, particularly during trips to the United States and Halifax.
