Taco Bell confirms Butter Chicken Taco is coming to US menus after fan vote

Taco Bell announced the results of its first Global Taco Vote, where fans decided which popular menu item from another country will be added to US menus later this year.

From March 26th to April 1st, Taco Bell Rewards members voted for a week to choose between two popular menu items that hadn’t previously been offered across the entire United States.

Following a week-long voting period, Taco Bell announced that the Butter Chicken Taco from India is the winner of the Global Taco Vote, receiving 64.65% of all votes. It outperformed the Kickin’ Chicken Taco from Thailand, which was the other finalist.

For the first time, Taco Bell let its Rewards members in the US vote on a favorite menu item from another country. The winning taco will be available for a limited time in the US starting in late 2026.

What is the Butter Chicken Taco?

The Butter Chicken Taco takes the flavors of the classic Indian dish and puts them in taco form! It’s made with tender, slow-cooked chicken in a creamy, spiced tomato sauce.

Okay, so this thing is seriously good – it’s got onions, cilantro, lettuce, and cheddar cheese all piled onto a crispy, fried chalupa shell. I first tried it when Taco Bell launched their “Desi Menu” over in India back in 2023. It was part of their effort to add local Indian flavors to their regular menu, and honestly, it worked! It’s a really unique and tasty take on a classic.

The Kickin’ Chicken Taco, a competitor from Thailand, featured crispy chicken, fresh pico de gallo, a mix of three cheeses, lettuce, and a spicy sauce, all wrapped in a flour tortilla.

In early March, Taco Bell announced it would be adding more than 20 new products to its menu in the US, like Baja Blast-themed eye patches and Chicken Nuggets coated in Doritos crumbs.
