Nightdive Studios’ remake of the classic 1994 sci-fi action game, System Shock, received critical acclaim on PC in 2023 and consoles in 2024. Now, Nintendo gamers will finally be able to experience this beloved title. Players will face off against SHODAN, a rogue AI, as they explore the terrifying Citadel Station.

The remake updates the original gameplay with modern HD graphics, controls, and sound, while staying true to the spirit of the original. Players will navigate a station overrun with mutated creatures controlled by the villainous SHODAN, solving puzzles and avoiding traps as they try to escape. Success will require a combination of stealth, strategy, and futuristic weapons.

Nightdive Studios collaborated with members of the original System Shock development team, including Terri Brosius, who once again voices the iconic villain, SHODAN.

The Nintendo Switch version of System Shock will include features like Joy-Con mouse support, gyro aiming, and various improvements requested by the community. When played docked, the game will run at up to 1440p at 60fps, and in handheld mode on the Switch 2, it will run at 1080p at 60fps.

According to Justin Khan, a producer at Nightdive Studios, the Switch port is shaping up to be a remarkable achievement, potentially joining the ranks of other technically impressive Switch games like Doom 2016, Wolfenstein, and The Witcher 3. Nightdive aimed to create a System Shock port that matches those games in terms of technical prowess, and they’ve maintained dynamic lighting to achieve a visually impressive experience. They are confident fans will be pleased with the performance and unique features of the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions.
