Sylvester Stallone rose to fame in iconic 80s and 90s action movies. In 2010, he appeared in a film alongside other action stars, aiming to recapture that past success. Despite poor reviews, the movie unexpectedly launched a series of three sequels. Now, all the films are available on a streaming service for fans who enjoy simple, entertaining action.
Most people agree that the Expendables movies are action-packed fun, and soon you’ll be able to stream most of them on Peacock. The fourth movie will join the service on November 20, 2025. Starting in 2010, the series follows a team of mercenaries – led by Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross – who take on dangerous missions against terrorists, traitors, and crooked politicians. While there’s some backstory explained throughout the films, they’re more about exciting action than a complex story.
Despite generally negative reviews from critics – averaging only 38% on Rotten Tomatoes – The Expendables movies have found an audience. While critics have described the series as unoriginal and outdated, average viewers give it a 62% rating. This suggests many people enjoy the films’ over-the-top action, explosions, and abundance of memorable one-liners, appealing to those who grew up loving action movie catchphrases.
Is ‘The Expendables’ Franchise Over?

Lionsgate
After The Expendables 3 came out in 2014, the movie series went on a long hiatus because the film didn’t do well in theaters. Many fans felt the three movies released within four years were too much, and they were losing interest in the predictable storylines and lack of character growth. It took nine years for the fourth movie, Expend4bles, to finally be released. Unfortunately, audiences still weren’t impressed after such a long wait.
With a disappointing box office haul of only $51 million compared to its $100 million budget, The Expendables 4 was a major flop and received the lowest ratings of any film in the series. It earned a mere 14% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and critic Connor Petrey perfectly summed up the problem when he wrote in his review:
Expend4bles feels more like a flashy TV movie than a big-screen blockbuster. Surprisingly, it tries to recapture the over-the-top action of the older, straight-to-video sequels, but goes too far.
Although it hasn’t been officially announced, it seems the Expendables movie series is finished for now and won’t be continuing. There are no plans for a fifth movie, so fans hoping for one shouldn’t expect it. If you want to watch all four Expendables films, they’ll be available to stream on Peacock starting November 20th.
