Switch 2 Reveal Was Surprising Due To Lack Of Surprises, Says Former PlayStation Boss

Previously with Sony as the head of PlayStation, Shuhei Yoshida has been vocalizing his thoughts and expressing his views more openly since his departure. Now, he has voiced his perspective regarding the unveiling of the latest Nintendo Switch model.

On the MinnMax podcast, according to VGC, Yoshida expressed his viewpoint that the Switch 2 unveiling event fell short of expectations, with the most surprising aspect being the scarcity of actual surprises during the event.

Yoshida remarked, “I wasn’t expecting much unexpectedness, but the mouse demonstration really took me aback.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but get excited about the sneak peek of the new Joy-Cons in the Switch 2 announcement trailer. Nintendo’s Yoshida hinted at the possibility of these Joy-Cons functioning like a computer mouse, gliding across surfaces. Here’s hoping they don’t just use this feature for typical gaming experiences, but rather, they’ll surprise us with some quirky, mind-blowing applications that we wouldn’t expect in a million years, steering clear of making the Switch 2 a platform for games like Call of Duty.

Yoshida expressed his hope that during Nintendo’s major Nintendo Direct event in April, they will unveil information about the Switch 2 that we are currently unaware of. He also sympathized with Nintendo due to the series of leaks leading up to their official announcement of the Switch 2, calling it an “unfortunate” situation. Like a spoiled surprise, Yoshida asked for no more leaks regarding the Switch 2.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Yoshida expressed his fondness for Nintendo, stating he is a big fan. However, he expressed a desire for the announcement of the Switch 2 to be more comprehensive than what was presented.

Yoshida recently drew attention for expressing his stance that he would have opposed Sony’s venture into live-service games and was taken aback by Horizon Forbidden West’s lower-than-anticipated sales. Furthermore, he discussed the reasons behind the absence of a Bloodborne remaster. Yoshida parted ways with Sony on January 15, 2025, after over three decades with the company.

In other PlayStation news, the next State of Play event could happen very soon.
