Switch 2 outperforms original Switch with 10m sales in under four months

As of September 30, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold over 10.36 million units globally, achieving this impressive number in less than four months.

So, Nintendo just released their latest numbers, and I was blown away – the Switch has officially sold over 10 million units! They said that in their investor report, covering sales up to the end of September. That’s a huge milestone, and I’m not surprised, honestly – it’s an awesome console.

Nintendo announced that they sold 3.5 million units within the first four days after launching in June 2025, and strong demand continues in key regions.

Although Nintendo hasn’t released detailed sales figures for each region yet, Famitsu reported that the new Nintendo Switch 2 is selling much better in Japan than the original Switch did, and stores are having trouble keeping up with customer demand.

Switch 2 sales outpace original Switch

Nintendo hasn’t shared exact sales figures for the last three months, but the new Switch is selling much faster than the original. The first Switch sold about 4.7 million units in its first four months, while the new model has already exceeded 10.36 million in just under that time. This means the new Switch is selling more than twice as quickly as the original did when it first launched.

Reuters reported on November 4th that Nintendo now expects to sell 19 million Switch consoles this year, driven by the strong performance of the Switch 2.

Popular games like Mario Kart World and the recently released Pokémon Legends Z-A are significantly boosting console sales. Pokémon Legends Z-A, in particular, had an impressive launch, selling 5.8 million copies in its first week.

Surpassing the original Switch’s impressive sales of 139 million units will be a challenge, but the new console is selling faster than the previous one did at launch. This suggests Nintendo is poised for another successful period of hardware sales heading into 2026.
