‘Swan Song’ TV Series From Greg Nicotero, Monarch Media Sets Russell Rothberg as Showrunner (EXCLUSIVE)

Exclusively learned that the television series based on Robert McCammon’s novel “Swan Song” has secured a writer, according to EbMaster.

Russell Rothberg has joined the team for a project that was initially unveiled back in January. His role includes serving as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Now, this project is being prepared for distribution.

The official logline for the show states:

After an unparalleled nuclear confrontation between the U.S. government and an evil adversary, the world we once knew no longer exists. In its stead is a society where survivors are fighting for their lives in a post-apocalyptic landscape, birthed from anger and fear, filled with terrifying creatures and ruthless armies. Amidst this chaos, a small girl emerges as a beacon of hope against an otherworldly force determined to bring about the planet’s annihilation.

Previously mentioned, the series originates from Monarch Media and the production company of Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten, Monster Agency Productions. Nicotero is scheduled to direct the pilot episode and serve as one of its executive producers, along with Witten. Steve Barnett, Alan Powell, Vicky Patel, and McCammon will all executive produce through Monarch Media. Brandi Hagedorn will co-produce.

More recently, Rothberg has been involved as a writer and executive producer for the Peacock limited series “Long Bright River” featuring Amanda Seyfried, set to premiere on March 13. He also holds an executive producer role in the Paramount+ limited series “The Offer.” His other works include “American Gigolo” at Showtime, “Foundation” at Apple TV+, and “Knightfall” at History Channel. Before delving into writing, Rothberg served as a TV executive, managing shows such as “Bates Motel,” “Chicago Fire,” and “The Path.

He is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Felker Toczek.
