As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for psychological explorations and a soft spot for the nostalgic allure of the 1980s, the announcement of Dreamcore has sent my gaming spirit soaring! The concept of delving into a multitude of extraordinary worlds based on liminal spaces, inspired by the intriguing ‘backrooms’ memes, is nothing short of exhilarating.
In a psychological adventure game called Dreamcore, due for release on January 23rd, 2025, players will be drawn into the enchanting eeriness of transitional environments. This intriguing title will be available to play on personal computers, as well as PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
In line with the presentation at the Latin American Games Showcase, an indie developer named Montraluz and publisher Tlön Industries have released a new demo today. This demo can be accessed from now until December 31st on platforms like Steam and Xbox as part of their Winter Demo Festival.
In the words of the game’s publisher, “Dreamcore” allows players to venture into numerous intriguing, vast worlds that revolve around mazes of transitional spaces. The game draws inspiration from the ‘backrooms’ internet memes, offering a distinctive adventure where you can delve into these non-linear dimensions. Each world presents a unique puzzle for the player to solve in order to find its exit.
The game designers note that this title offers a non-sequential narrative and multiple interwoven environments for players to delve into. It’s been meticulously created using Unreal Engine 5, ensuring each environment presents a dreamlike, distorted recollection of the 1980s, with an authentic grainy appearance similar to vintage VHS tapes.
As a gamer, diving into Dreamcore’s newest demo has me exploring one of their unique realms. This time around, they’re showcasing the game’s sequel world, Eternal Suburbia, which seems to have taken inspiration from Level 94 of the Backrooms wiki.
