Superman viewers who liked Edi Gathegi’s portrayal of Mister Terrific in the new DCU film starring David Corenswet have reason to be excited, as James Gunn just announced significant plans for the character. The Guardians of the Galaxy director recently discussed the character’s strong introduction and confirmed he’ll play a key role in the future of the DCU.
James Gunn says he has ‘major plans’ for Mr. Terrific after Superman
During a conversation with Brandon Davis, the host of Phase Hero: A Film & TV Podcast, James Gunn mentioned that Michael Gathegi’s Mister Terrific will have an important part to play in the DCU after being featured in Superman.
“I have big plans for Mister Terrific,” said the well-known filmmaker. He added that the positive reaction from fans did influence where Mister Terrific fits within the DC Universe.
“Absolutely, it impacts decisions,” Gunn explained. “You’re traveling the world, searching for oil, and occasionally you encounter a significant discovery-and Mr. Terrific is one of those. He’s incredibly well-liked,” Gunn stated, before continuing, “Seeing things like that does affect me.”
However, the DC Studios co-CEO always appeared to have future plans for the now popular character, as shown by what he said next in the interview. When discussing the positive response to Mister Terrific’s appearance in Superman, Gunn mentioned it didn’t “make all the difference in the world,” implying he’d already developed a storyline for the character.
After first appearing in Superman, Mister Terrific had a quick appearance in Peacemaker Season 2. He showed up as a shadowy figure in a flashback, which changed the story from Season 1. This flashback replaced the Justice League with a group called the Justice Gang. As of now, it’s unknown which future DCU project will star Gathegi as Michael Holt.
