I’m so excited for the next Superman movie! It sounds like James Gunn is already thinking about the villain, and reports are circulating about three actors potentially playing Brainiac. After the amazing first film, which focused on Lex Luthor, it’s cool to hear that the sequel, coming in July 2027, will pit Superman against this completely different, alien threat. Brainiac sounds like a truly formidable opponent for the Man of Steel!
For a long time, rumors have circulated that Brainiac will be featured in the upcoming DC Universe sequel. Numerous clues have suggested the appearance of this villain, known for collecting entire civilizations. Recent reports strongly indicate that Brainiac is not only in the movie, but casting for the role is currently happening.
As casting for the upcoming Man of Tomorrow movie begins, a list of potential actors for the villain Brainiac has emerged. Nexus Point News reports that three actors are currently being considered for the role.

The publication clarified that these were just three actors their sources suggested might be considered for the part, and many others are also being looked at. Still, this gives us a sense of the direction James Gunn and the team at DC Studios are heading with the character of Brainiac.
Brainiac first appeared in a 1958 Superman comic book and has since become one of his greatest enemies. This incredibly intelligent being is a life form from the planet Colu who travels the universe collecting knowledge. He’s notorious for shrinking entire cities and civilizations, taking them as keepsakes.
While DC hasn’t officially announced who will play Brainiac in Superman 2, reports suggest they’re searching for an actor with a powerful and imposing physical presence. Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
The 3 Actors DC Is Eyeing To Play Brainiac
Claes Bang

Out of the actors considered for the role of Brainiac in Superman 2, Danish actor Claes Bang is likely the least known to American audiences. While a celebrated performer in Denmark, winning awards for his work in theater and film, he’s become more recognizable to Western viewers through roles in the 2017 film The Square and the 2022 film The Northman.
Next, Bang will appear in The Wrecking Crew with Jason Momoa, previously known for his role in DC films. He’ll play the main villain, facing off against Momoa and his co-star, Dave Bautista.
Matt Smith

As a huge movie fan, I’ve been hearing whispers about who could play Brainiac in the new DCU, and Matt Smith’s name keeps popping up – and honestly, it makes a lot of sense! Most people probably know him as the Eleventh Doctor from Doctor Who, which was brilliant, but he’s also shown he can do villainous roles, like in Morbius where he played a really creepy character. I think he’d be fantastic as Brainiac.
Smith will also play a villain in the new Star Wars: Starfighter movie. Sources say he’ll be working with Mia Goth’s character to find a young boy who may be strong with the Force.
Sam Rockwell

The latest actor Nexus Point News suggested for the role of Brainiac was Sam Rockwell, a well-respected performer. Rockwell has experience playing comic book villains – he famously portrayed the eccentric Justin Hammer in Marvel’s Iron Man 2 over ten years ago.
Sam Rockwell, an Oscar winner, recently made a quick appearance in Season 3 of HBO’s The White Lotus, earning him another Emmy nomination. Since it’s unclear if he’ll reprise his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the role of Brainiac could be a great way to bring this popular actor into James Gunn’s new DC Universe and add some big-name talent to the project.
