Details about the villain in the upcoming Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow may have been revealed in a recent casting call. James Gunn, who is leading the new DC Universe after launching it with this year’s Superman, is now working on the sequel. While the movie isn’t due out until 2027, information about the main antagonist is starting to surface.
After months of speculation about the main villain in Superman 2, a new report suggests we may already know who it is. Nexus Point News claims sources indicate the actor will require extensive makeup and prosthetics, and casting is focusing on performers with a powerful, imposing physique.
This increases the likelihood that Brainiac will be the main villain in the upcoming Superman sequel, planned for 2027. The character is known for his green skin, which would mean the actor playing him would need extensive makeup and prosthetics.
Ever since they first announced Man of Tomorrow, everyone’s been buzzing about Brainiac. It made sense, really, because the movie was setting up Superman, played by David Corenswet, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, to fight a big bad together – and Brainiac just seemed like the obvious choice.
The discussion around James Gunn’s plans for Superman 2 took an interesting turn when he revealed a photo of the completed script. The cover featured a cross-section of a human brain, hinting at the film’s complex themes.
This doesn’t definitely prove Brainiac will be in the new DC movie, but more and more clues suggest he might be.
The new Superman movie, Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow, is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 9, 2027. Written and directed by James Gunn, who heads DC Studios, the film will feature Superman and his longtime enemy Lex Luthor joining forces to face a powerful new threat.
Who Will Be the Superman 2 Villain?

Most fans currently believe Brainiac will be the next major villain in the DC Universe, and expect to see him appear in Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow. But there’s a possibility these hints could be leading to a different character altogether.
While the villain who collects cities matches the description – a powerful, green-skinned alien – the casting call could easily be for someone else entirely.
Mongul is another strong contender. This frightening comic book villain is a ruthless tyrant who rules Warworld, a massive space station that travels the galaxy, capturing slaves to fight as gladiators.

Though not as well-known as Brainiac, Mongul would also need a physically commanding actor to play him. The role would require significant prosthetics and makeup to create his distinctive look – specifically, his orange-yellow skin and the metallic framework of his helmet.
He also suggested that Superman might have to team up with Lex Luthor, because the DC villain is powerful enough to challenge the entire Justice League, not just Superman alone. (You can find more about possible villains for Superman 2 here.)
While many actors could play the villain in Superman 2, these two currently seem like the frontrunners.
